Default Nomar in pinstripes too?

Heard yesterday on both PTI and ATH that people close to Nomar are saying he would be more than willing to join A-Rod and Jeter in the yanks infield at 2nd base.

Add him to Carlos Beltran, Randy Johnson/Tim Hudson.....are the Yankees looking for a $500m payroll? Christ....

Well Purple, as a Yankee fan, I don't want him. There are more important roles on the team to be filled (starting pitching, lefty specialist, Carlos Beltran) before Nomar is paid any attention. Cairo was a fine 2B last season and had he gotten a full season as a starter (he was splitting time with Enrique Wilson about half the season) his numbers would be a bit better. Had he played a full season as the starter he'd probably hit .290 10 HR 50 RBI. More than respectable numbers. If not Cairo, Placido Polanco would be a good stop gap until Robinson Cano, provided he isn't traded, in a season or two.

Nomar should stay put. I bet he is a little bitter towards the Sox, but don't go to the Yankees. I think he should stay with the Cubs.

Actually, I think the statement Nomar made was something along the lines that he would be willing to move to a position other than SS if it meant he could get a better contract or catch on with a better team. I don't think ever explicitly said he would move to second if it meant a shot at playing with the Yanks. The thought is also that one of the reasons he is open to moving is that he doesn't have the range to play SS anymore and would rather play a less demanding position.

Besides, Alex is right the Yanks have bigger fish to fry than upgrading the offense. Breakdowns in pitching, not offense, led to the Yanks demise this fall. Unless Nomar can throw 95 MPH heater with a wicked breaking ball I don't see where he gets the Yanks that much closer to returning to the Series. Also, where would you put Nomar in the lineup if you got him? I cannot imagine he would be all that happy hitting in the bottom half of the order.

Nomar a yank sure y not all we need is another ss to play 1st now. Id take him as long as hes not askin 4 a crazy contract.
The guy can play baseball and i know this would def make the rivalry even more intense. Next we would sighn his old teammates pedro n possible lowe or varitek if we trade posada 4 a pitcher and we can have 1 big reuinion

That didn't stop Roger Clemens, though, did it? *sigh*

I don't think the Yanks will go for it, either. Their money can be better spent elsewhere.

I also heard that Nomar hinted that he would be willing to play second base... The Yankees would have the three best shortstops in the American league in their infield! Next they'll have Miguel Tejada playing 1st!

Even if Nomar wanted to be a Yankee and wanted to play 2B, as a Yankee fan, I'd say no. Nomar would be a terrible defensive 2Bman. His bat would be nice but his defense would be whole other story.

The Yanks need to worry about pitching, not Nomar

The Yanks don't need him, just like they didn't need Giambi. They need pitching, that is why they won in 96, 98, 99, and 2000. But being a Yankee fan for so long, good ole George will try to fill up with "stars" to win, which DOES NOT work. Look at the Mariners, they had Johnson, A-Rod and others and couldn't win. They got rid of them and they played better..
