Thumbs down McNabb Sets New Low For Chutzpah, Hypocrisy

I'm sure you've all heard the joke about the kid who murdered his parents and then pleaded for mercy at his trial on the grounds of being an orphan.

Well Donovan McNabb has just taken that concept to an all-time low, in his latest remarks that are airing tonight on HBO:

Are the comments really that bad? You can disagree with him all you want, but are they really that bad? I mean, the comments don't even seem to borderline into the dumb territory.

In and of themselves, the comments actually aren't that bad; but remember that this is coming from someone who, two years ago, openly collaborated with his team's white owner against a fellow black player.

McNabb's problem is not that he changes his mind, but that he is thoroughly dishonest.

But he didn't collaborate with the white owner against TO because TO is a black man. That's just silly. He collaborated with the white owner against Owens because Owens was a problem to the team...

Of course said fellow black player's actions had nothing to do with McNabb's actions, right?

There are plenty of white QBs scrutinized and torn to shreds more than him (Eli, Rexy). I think black QBs before him actually had to deal with this and paved the way for this generation. To me, McNabb sounds whiney and I don't agree with him.

Eli and Rex haven't nearly been as good as McNabb, though. I don't necessarily agree with what McNabb said, but pointing out that other white QBs have been scrutinized more than him just doesn't relate to the point any. More apt would be that McNabb doesn't get nearly the same treatment as Favre does over the past couple of seasons or Peyton before the Super Bowl and McNabb has been every bit as good.

Long before the T.O. trouble started, McNabb was widely regarded as a "company man" who "toes the line" - and all that nonsense that came out of McNabb's mouth about how he didn't want to be thought of as a "running quarterback" was uttered more than a year before T.O. even arrived in Philly.

But even if McNabb's antagonism toward T.O. was not racially-motivated (and no one, including me, is claiming it necessarily was), he still collaborated with management against a fellow player; my great-grandparents had a word for people who do things like that - sbirru, which from Sicilian dialect translates somewhere between "informer" and "traitor."

One minute McNabb is as above, the next minute (as in the interview that forms the basis for this thread) he's playing the race card?

Like I said - the man is thoroughly dishonest.

He sure did play well in yesterday's win over Detroit.

Isn't it odd how no one in the media highlighted the inherent role reversal of a white wide receiver catching 221 yards' worth of passes - including two TD receptions of more than 40 yards - from a black quarterback?

All the racial bean-counters out there apparently missed that one.

Tempest in a teapot...

Finally saw that interview & while I disagreed with some of his views, it was laced with a lot of truths. Besides that, if any have a problem with McNabb, they should realize that the NFL would be lucky to have a few more just like him. He carries himself well & that's from a guy who punches in to work in the City of Brotherly Love...

p.s. LOL @ Jeff....good one

A few more guys who harbor old grudges to the death? McNabb still resents the fact that he had to "settle" for Syracuse rather than USC or Notre Dame because he felt those schools didn't want a black quarterback - 13 years later! More guys who run away when the heat is turned up on them? He fled to Arizona during the 2003 bye week because he couldn't take the completely justified criticism he was getting from the media and fan base in Philly. More guys who adamantly refuse to accept accountability for their actions - viz, his pukefest on that never-ending drive in the Super Bowl? And more guys who put their own deluded egos above the best interests of the team? That was vividly on display during the T.O. affair, and also last March when he could have stepped up and volunteered to restructure his contract (which could have actually resulted in his receiving more money when all was said and done) so that they could have held onto Donte' Stallworth (could it be that McNabb simply is not considerate of others by his very nature?).

You can have McNabb. He's for the birds (no pun intended) - and did you catch John Clayton's little innuendo about the Bears possibly making a pitch to acquire him in a trade next spring?

If that indeed happens, all the drinks are on me that night.

Geez Anthony, did McNabb sneak up on you and punch you in the nuts? Steal your girlfriend? He must have done something to you....
