Talking Montreal Playing Some Good Ball

Montreal defeated Florida 9-7 Wednesday night to improve their record to 5-3. They currently sit atop the NL East. They are 4-1 on the road and 1-2 at home. Catcher Michael Barrett has been the offense basically for the Expos. In tonight's game he hit his fourth homerun of the season and drove in six runs in that game to give him 13 RBI's for the young season. He also hit a double in that game.

Pitcher Carl Pavano was the winner. He is 1-1. He struckout six Florida batters. His ERA is 2.84.

I hope they do well this year. I realize they are owned by Major League Baseball, but what the heck. Frank Robinson is a good manager.

Wouldn't it be interesting for the Twins and Expos to play well and both contend for their division titles? Where would that leave Mr. Selig as Commissioner?

I'm not keeping up with the Expos but I'll take your word for it -- if Barrett is providing the offense, just wait until Geurrero gets it going and Vidro is 100% healthy again!

Look who they've played this season so far, though -- two series against Florida and one against Cincinnatti... not exactly the strongest teams out there. Plus, it doesn't matter how many wins they get... they don't have the fans, and I doubt they'll get over 10,000 even if they do continue this kind of "streak."

34,000 for the home opener, but just 4,000 for game two. Disgusting.

can you really blame them, though? why cheer for a team that is almost guaranteed not to exist next year, and on top of that, a team that isnt going to win much

I'm not blaming them... I know what it's like -- the NHL's Winnipeg Jets had like 5,000 or 8,000 fans per game for most part of the 1995-1996 season .. their last.

"When fans bought tickets to this game (the last regular season home game at Winnipeg) three months ago, they thought they were buying tickets to a funeral, but with just two games left in the season, the Jets need just two points to clinch a playoff berth.. So with a win tonight against the Kings, the Jets will be in the playoffs and depending on how St. Louis and L.A. does the rest of the season, the Jets could finish as high as 6th"... I can remember clearly, word-for-word, the voice of Curt Keilback beginning the broadcast of his last ever Winnipeg Jets game. Hey, I don't blame Montreal -- what's the point? That's what Winnipegers thought here, too, but if the Jets.. errr.. Expos start to win regularly, and they STILL don't sell-out or get 30,000 fans per game.... well...... they deserve to move.

Things are so bad in Montreal now that the new turf in their ballpark is rented. They will have to give it back after this season is over. What would the market be for used turf? If Luis Gonzales' used gum went for $3K on ebay and a round of gold with Tiger went for $425K, I suppose they could get $150 for it. I'd even pay that much for it. I hate mowing my lawn.
Seriously, I think the Expos are playing well. They have some talent, Vlad, Lee Stevens, Vidro, and that pitching. They have a lot of potential and I hope thay can find some fans to support them somewhere.

The Expos can contend if the NL East stays this horrible all year. I dunno what to expect now.

I don't care who or what players the Braves have on their team-they cannot hit well as a team. I'm ready for Bobby Cox to go.

Andruw Jones and Furcal seem to go 0 for every game...

Mets are in first
