Default Everything is sellable, including gum

So I tracked down Arizona's Luis Gonzalez in San Diego the other day.

"Luis," I said. "Somebody's actually selling your chewing gum? On the Internet? For, like, 300 bucks?"

"More than that," Gonzalez said. "A radio deejay from Phoenix called today and told me it's up to $3,200 now. I think Bazooka is trying to buy it back.

"Do you believe it?"

Scary thing is, I do believe it.

And for those who don't, bidding on the www.nocontraction.com Web site was up to $3,500 for a wad of bubble gum Gonzalez allegedly spit out during a Cactus League game in Arizona a couple of weeks ago. An alert fan asked a security guard to scoop up the sticky pink goo, took it home, and figured he'd jump into the sports memorabilia market and have a Bubblicious time.
Geese, kind of ludicrous and amusing, huh? I can't believe people waste their money on things like this. Some people need to find new hobbies.

.....what about those that go and buy baseballs!? Barry Bonds' #70 home run ball was recently sold at.... well.... I forget how much it was, but it was more than I would pay

Come to think of it . . . . I forget if that #70 ball was sold for more than the $3,200 payed for the gum you're talking about, or not

Well, a baseball is nowhere near has silly as a piece of GUM, for crying out loud. That's just dumb - and gross.

It was game used gum, the guy had a security gaurd pick it up for him on the field.

And if I remember correctly, #70 went for $2,500 I think...

Its the novelty and publicity that this auction's gotten though that makes the price so high. But still...

I love Bazooka bubble gum, but since I'm diabetic now I can't chew. I hope he makes a fortune off of it.

I can't believe someone would actually want to buy some of Gonzo's ABC gum!

Do I have any bidders on this Winterfresh gum I just chewed!? How bout we start the bidding at $5!?

I don't think Dr. Nate Kevorkian's gum is worth as much as Luis Gonzalez's chewed gum.

I would be willing to bet that half the bids on that gum were made just because and actually had no intention on winning the auction.

Word is that the Luis Gonzalez gum isn't actually his. After the game the seller just jumped onto the field and grabbed any peice of gum that he could find.

It wouldn't surprise me. But I thought the story was a security gaurd got it for him, not him himself actually going on the field and retreiving it.

Gonzo, in order to prevent being asked to take a DNA test to prove it was his, chewed a wad of gum at a press conference, put it in a bottle, signed it, and sent it to the dude auctioning the gum.. The winner of the auction will recieve both wads.

I think its funny that it went that far.
