Default USA wins first junior hockey title

http://msn.espn.go.com/oly/news/2004/0105/1700955.html

Three goals in the third period to beat Canada 4-3. Not quite equivalant with the "Miracle on Ice" but still pretty impressive.

Not quite equivalant with the "Miracle on Ice" , but quite equivalant with the "Fluke on Ice".

Congratulations though, the Americans were favored to win at the beginning of the tournament.

Ya... what a fluke... two fluky goals to tie the game, then to win. The Americans never even knew of this tournament until they won, and now they are "yay go team"???? That doesn't make any sense. I bet you even though they are the defending champs, no one will know of this tournament unless they win it next year, when it is in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

You're probably right (if not maybe a little bitter about the whole thing). But for now, go USA.

in the end, its still just junior hockey. no need to get bent out of shape.

Let's not turn this into a who's better thread..

I never even thought the US was going to win this (nor did I want them too.)

I was cheering for Canada all the way, obviously because Fleury was on the team. I'm a little dissapointed that Ovechkin didn't own the tournament, but I'd still like the Penguins to draft him.

Congratulations to USA though.

When I said flukey goal, that's exactly what I meant by that. If you happened to watch the game and saw the game winning goal, to win the tournament like that is a huge dissapointment, for BOTH teams. Why? Obviously for Canada, to lose that way just shatters your confidence and now you have to wait another year, or this was it - you're last shot in the case of M.A Fleury. As for the U.S, i'm pretty sure that is not how they wanted to win that tournament. It's just a shame it had to end that way, that's all.
