No, no, no. Recent history has shown that despite no salary cap, nearly anyone can come out of it, from the Marlins to the Angels to the White Sox. It's different than the NFL and NBA. I think it's going to be very rare for us to see repeat champions.

The Soxs should be the favorites to win it all. Defense and pitching is solid. Anything they get from Jim Thome would be a bonus. The outfield is a question, since they lost Carl Everett. I believe they're going to have a rookie in center.

The White Sox will have a solid team next season. Their pitching and defense will be well above league average. They should hit a few homers as well, but their BAs will not be what they might want. They lost Thomas (a high average hitter throughout his career) and Everett (another high average hitter) and added Thome.
I don't see them repeating, and I really don't see them winning their division. I will predict that the Indians will be the best team in the AL Central.

I think on paper right now the White Sox are definitly the best team. But they really played as well as they possibly could have last year. It was storybook. I see them comming back down to earth a good bit this year. But the Indians havn't exactly improved themselves with free agency. No suprise there I suppose.

Sigining Jon Garland to a great deal won't hurt.

Yeah. Good move, but he got too much $$$ IMO. Let's see how he does this year.

Losing Everett does not hurt them in the least. He only played 22 games in the field last year and was primarily the Sox' DH, so essentially they are replacing Everett's bat with Thome's. Their starting OF is currently stands at: Podsednik in left, Brian Anderson in center, and Dye in right. Where they could see a drop off is in the defense that Rowand gave them in center.

i would take the field of all other MLB teams over the White Sox repeating as champs. i doubt their pitching will be lights out as it was during their title run. Bobby Jenks has very little experience so making him the full time closer over an entire season raises a concern.

i agree that letting Carl Everett go makes no impact. Thome, if heathly, is a better hitter. Everett's defense is suspect at best. World Series MVP Jermaine Dye will be more then fine as the everyday right fielder.

I'm surprised so many easily dismiss the White Sox.

They have as good a chance at repeating as any most previous champ IMO. In other words, no guarantees, almost impossible, but I wouldn't count them out.

It just seems that some write off last year as somewhat of a fluke. They have 1 of the best rotations in baseball, plenty of power, & have bought into the right style of the Ozzie small ball at the right times to continue being a force.

Offensively it has but their pitching still leaves something to be desired from a rotation standpoint. After Randy Johnson there is not a whole lot to hang your hat on. They have not had any real quality depth in the rotation since they let Wells, Pettite, and Clemens go elsewhere.

If the White Sox starting pitchers dominate like they did last year, they have a great chance to get to the World Series again. I think Cleveland will give them a good challenge this season in the AL Central though.
