Default What is Ottawa doing?

First they deal Radek Bonk to the Kings, who eventually joined Montreal for the 77th pick in the draft. Then they trade away Patrick Lalime to St. Louis for a 4th round pick in 2005??

They could have got a lot more for Bonk, and trading away a great goalie for a fourth round pick is a joke. The way they treated Lalime this time is a disgrace, especially since they did it to get Dominik Hasek...who has battled with a nagging injury all last year and isn't the same Dominator anymore. I'm very confused at all these moves and don't see them as any way to improve.

Hasek is fully recovered from his injury and should help the Sens get to thenext level. I've heard the Ottawa are interested in Craig Conroy. He is not comming back to the Flames (which is sad to see).

I dunno, sometimes a goalie just gets to a certain point in a city where he's a distraction. I'm a Flyers fan and I can relate to what happened to Cechmanek. It may not have been fair to Lalime, but in the end its probably better to just bring someone else in for a fresh start then have a guy carrying that baggage all season. I'm sure Hasek can fill the spot....he's not as good as he used to be....but in his prime he was pretty much leaps and bounds better then everyone else. He's still a top goalie as far as I'm concerned....what he might have lost physically he makes up for in experience and his mental toughness.

They coulda got a LOT more for Lalime, a Vezina nominee just 2 years ago. The way Muckler put it, they gave Lalime a lot of respect. Just listen to the Ottawa radio stations after the playoffs. I listened to the Team1200 constantly and he was very unfairly treated by my fellow Sens fans. Their loss in the playoffs was definitely not his fault, but everyone put the blame on him and Muckler didn't want that on his shoulders 'cuz he thought it was unfair too.

And Bonk? Was useless. He's getting a #1 centerman salary even though he's clearly not a #1 centerman. But another big reason they got rid of both Lalime and Bonk was salary.

I would like to see Lalime again since he is young and has a lot more to look forward to. And Muckler probably (...or definitely) could've got a lot more for him but it was probably a salary thing. I guess now we just have to hope Hasek can do it, but I'm defintiely not sad to see Bonk go.

There was another reason they got rid of him though. An

It's hard to say what they "should" have got for Lalime though. Hockey is very much a "what have you done lately" for me business. I dont' see Lalime as a goalie who could carry a team.

His numbers as a Senator were not overly impressive, nor did he ever prove to be a game stealer. He played on a very fast and talented team that protected him fairly well. Put him on an average team that doesn't protect him as well as the Sens did, hes going to get eaten alive. Look at Cechmanek or Brian Boucher, look at their numbers as Flyers, then look at their numbers once they were traded to a less competative team.

Boucher did have that amazing shutout streak though...and Cechmanek had an injury year the past season. The entire Kings roster had injury problems.

I like Lalime, i think he's a good goalie and has great potential. If Dominik Hasek was five years younger than it's an obvious slam dunk for me, but he's gotten older and groin injures never seem to fully heal. Plus, if Hasek does play well (which I no doubt think he can) who will be they're goalie of the future? Prusek? He played well last season, but I'm not sure how he'd hold out as a starter.

I say Lalime will have a good year with St. Louis and show Ottawa management that he is an elite goalie in this league.

Solid yes, but elite? Roy, Brodeur, Hasek....he doesn't belong with any of the names I consider "elite".

When Boucher went on his shutout streak alot of people in south jersey and philly began to bring up the "see, bobby clark never develops any players, we should have kept boucher". I knew that Boucher would fall back to earth, and he did fall back to earth, HARD. Hes another example of a solid goaltender, but not one who defines the team.

I doubt Lalime will have a very good year, probably just an "average" year, he wont' stand out. Hes in the western conference now with a team that is probably the weakest it has been in the past 5 years....they didn't even qualify Demitra.
