Default Where will they All Go?

Concerning the contraction about to take place in MLB, where will the players go? What will happen to Corey Koskie, Doug Mientkicwiz, Jacque Jones, David Ortiz, Rick Reed, Brad Radke, Vladimir Guerrero, Jose Vidro, Tony Armas Jr if they are the actually teams chosen to leave. Can they file for unemployment? lol

Who will acquire all the decent players. I would like to see Doug Mientkicwiz go the Atlanta Braves and replace Julio Franco. I would like Corey Koskie go the the Yankees to replace Brosius.

Maybe see Radke go to the Mets and Guerrero go to Seattle.

I wish Toronto would dissolve. Where would Mondesi go? Hopefully to a Jenny Craig diet facility or in the boxing ring with unemployed and redneck John Rocker. lol

It's going to be interesting!:goof:

Yes, it will be interesting to see how and where these players go. It will be interesting to see who aquires who in the dispersal draft. There is some talent there.

Remember that any contraction talk is just that at this time. The MLBPA MUST approve any reduction in their ranks and it is unlikely that they will do so at this time, at least in this manner.
If Mr. Selig wants to increase the market for his Brewers, he'll need to do so by negotiating with the Players Association.
Also, Major League Baseball is under Federal Court order to play a full season in the Metrodome, under a lawsuit filed by the ownership group that manages the Dome.
Again, if Mr. Selig wants to increase the market for his team, he needs to improve their play on the field, not remove competition.

The only fair way to disperse the players on the disbanded teams - and one that will also promote "competitive balance" - is to hold an NFL-style draft, with the worst team from this year having the first pick (since the Pirates and Devil Rays were both 62-100 and did not play each other, whichever one had the worse record against common opponents would have the first selection), and the Diamondbacks and Yankees having the last and next-to-last picks respectively. This draft would only include players from the phased-out teams who were not originally slated to become free agents at the end of this season.

Well, I'll tell 'ya it'll be the Pirates getting the #1 choice in this "draft" 'cuz it'll be the Rays & 'Spos moving.... and if those aren't the two teams that move (and the Twins are one of those teams), this is all I have to say:

First of all, Catman hit it right on the head. It's all just talk. For all they care, the owner could vote to end baseball right here. But does it mean anything. No, not yet.

But a dispersal draft is the only way to go. But the thing I want to see is that the player a team drafts must stay on that team. Not traded for a bunch of prospects. That said. Players like Koskie, Radke, and Mientkicwiz will go early enough that the Braves and Yanks won't be getting them. What I would like to see the Braves do is maybe get a catcher like A.J. Perzinki or a prospect in the draft if there is one.

Another idea is for all of the players to become Free Agents, which I think is just stupid, because it won't solve any problems. How are teams like the Pirates, Devil Rays, and Royals supposed to outbid a team like the Yankees for Vladimir Guerrero or Javier Jazquez? They won't be able too and all the superstars will end up on high payroll teams, leaving the lower payroll teams with nothing. And in a few years, they'll be talking about more contraction.

I kind of like the dispersal draft idea, but it does have some major holes in it. Like, if the Pirates take Vlad and can't meet his contract demands (he'll probably be looking for close to $20M a year), a team like the Yankees can easily step in, tell the Pirates they'll give them 3 or 4 prospects for Vlad. The Pirates will definitley accept and the low payroll teams are left with nothing but an improved farm system, which does their major league team no good.

MLB is going to have to step in and make sure this type of thing doesn't happen. The last thing this league needs is to be talking about more contraction in 2 or 3 years.
