Talking John Smoltz earns 50th Save

Will he break the all-time single season record of 57 held by Bobby Thigpen? I hope so. Needs eight more to do it-it will be close. Braves have 18 or 19 games left. Smoltz deserves to win the Cy Young too. He has been so dominating. Maybe a three way tie in the balloting lol Braves beat Mets in first game of doubleheader today for Smoltz to get that save. Pitcher Kevin Millwood won his 17th victory. Great season for him too.

Smoltz is amazing. Its incredible that he can be so dominant as a closer. Too bad he doesn't like closing.

That's a rumor. Rumor, rumor, rumor. Yes, he would also like to start, but he's very comfortable in the closer's role and is dominating. He wouldn't have signed the incentive laden contract (starting that is) if he wasn't comfortable in closing. But yeah, I hope I see him break the record too, but it will be close.

He earned his 52nd save tonite against Philadelphia in a 2-1 win-Maddux was the winning pitcher.

He's one away from Trevor Hoffman's NL record of 53.

John Smoltz has probably added 5 years onto his baseball life by becoming a closer. He is dominating and I see no reason to think he'll slow down for a few more years.
Not everyone can make that transition, but a source out of the Dodgers' camp said that in spring training, Sandy Koufax threw a few innings and was un-hittable. Maybe a comeback from the HOFer?
