Question 2003 Pro Basketball Rankings Week 15

Weekly rankings reflect all games played from Oct. 29th through February 7th, 2003. Only the top 20 teams are ranked each week for now.

DUE TO THEIR SHORT WEEK, DUE TO THE ALL-STAR GAME, I WILL NOT RANK THE TEAMS THIS WEEK, BUT WILL NEXT MONDAY. I WILL SHOW THEIR CORRECT WON-LOSS RECORD THROUGH FEB. 7TH. AlSO HAVE THEIR SCHEDULE FROM FEB 11TH THROUGH FEB 15TH. COMMENTS ON EACH TEAM ARE FROM WEEK 14.

Just as a side note, Michael Redd of Milwaukee leads the NBA in 3-Point % at .455. Also, Shaquille O'Neal leads the NBA IN FG% at .562.

1.-DALLAS MAVERICKS--(38-10)-The Mavericks have won four games in a row. Dallas beat Utah Monday night at Utah, 92-90 Feb. 3rd. The Mavs spoiled Utah's Karl Malone's 1,400 career game by winning. Nick Van Exel who has been playing well lately for Dallas, hit a 3-pointer with 13.1 seconds left in regulation. Exel finished with 12 points. Dirk Nowitzki led the team with 25 points and Steve Nash had 20 with six assists. Dallas leads the NBA in points scored per game, averaging 102.7 points per game.


2.-INDIANA PACERS--(34-15)-The Pacers beat Boston this past Saturday at Indianapolis, 109-100 on Feb. 1st. Jermaine O'Neal, Brad Miller and Reggie Miller all had doubles-doubles in the win. Head coach Isaih Thomas was not present, because he had been suspended for two games saturday by the NBA for his role in a fight between two players during a loss to Toronto.


3.-SAN ANTONIO SPURS--(33-16)-The Spurs have won three in a row. They beat Orlando last Friday in Orlando, 109-108 on Jan. 31st. Tim Duncan had 23 points, 17 rebounds and six assists. On Saturday the Spurs won 67-65 over Miami in Miami. Both teams combined for the ninth-fewest points since the 24-second shot clock was introduced in 1954. Wow! Duncan grabbed a career-high 25 rebounds in that game.


4-SACRAMENTO KINGS--(34-17)-The Kings were beaten by the Los Angeles Lakers this past Friday, 124-113 in Sacramento. This was the first time the Lakers had visited Arco Arena since the NBA champions beat them in game seven of the finals last season. Peja Stojakovic scored 36 in the loss for the Kings. He fouled out with 1:31 left in regulation. The Kings played their second game without Chris Webber, who is out for three weeks with a sprained ankle. The Kings lead the Western Pacific by one and one half games over Portland. The Kings rank second in the NBA in FG%, at .462. Utah is first.


5-NEW JERSEY NETS--(34-15)-The Nets beat Seattle in overtime at New Jersey, 109-108 Monday night, Feb. 3rd. Forward Kenyon Martin led the Nets with a career high 35 points. Martin also had 12 rebounds. He blocked Rashard Lewis' last shot at the end of regulation. Martin has been averaging 14.9 points per game. Jason Kidd had 20 points and 12 assists. The Nets lead the Eastern Atlantic division.


6.-DETROIT PISTONS--(32-15)-The Pistons embarrassed Boston in Boston Friday, 118-66 on Jan. 31st. Detroit dealt Boston their worst loss in franchise history. Richard Hamilton scored 29 points for the winning Pistons. Detroit beat New Jersey this past Saturday, 106-84 at Detroit. Chauncey Billups scored 27 points, including 20 in the first quarter, as Detroit built an early lead. NJ was without Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson.


7.-PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS--(32-16)-Portland crushed Cleveland in Cleveland, 114-95 Sunday, Feb. 2nd. Rasheed Wallace scored 14 of his 29 points in the first 10 minutes of the game to lead his team to victory. This was his second game, since his seven game suspension for confronting a referee. Derek Anderson scored 13 points for the Trailblazers in this game.


8.-PHOENIX SUNS--(29-21)-The Suns beat Chicago in overtime at Phoenix, 115-111 Monday night, Feb. 3rd. All-Star teammates Stephon Marbury and Shawn Marion each scored 36 points to lead their team to victory in overtime. Marbury scored six in overtime. His two free throws with 1:30 to play sealed the win. Marion sank a 3-pointer with 19.4 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Great duo.


9.-MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES--(29-20)-The Timberwolves beat Philadelphia at Minnesota, 99-91. The game was played Sunday, Feb. 2nd. This was Minnesota's eighth straight win at home. Kevin Garnett had 30 points and 17 rebounds. Marc Jackson had 14 points. Joe Smith is out with a sprained ankle at least for three weeks. The Wolves dressed only ten players for the game.


11.HOUSTON ROCKETS--(26-22)-The Rockets beat Minnesota at Houston, 121-101 last Friday, Jan. 31st. Steve Francis scored 27 points and Yao Ming had his 14th double-double of the season. Houston shot a season high 58.1 percent in that game. Their point total was a season high too. Ming had 24 points and 13 rebounds. He's really playing better and better.


11.-UTAH JAZZ--(29-20)-The Jazz beat Portland at home, 95-71 last Wednesday, Jan. 29th. Karl Malone had 20 points and 11 rebounds as Utah played the first of seven games without suspended head coach Jerry Sloan.


12-LOS ANGELES LAKERS--(24-23)-The Lakers beat up Sacramento in Sacramento, 124-113 this past Friday, Jan. 31st. Kobe Bryant had 38 points, five rebounds and five assists. Shaquille O'Neal contributed with 36 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. O'Neal leads the NBA in FG PCT at .560


13.-MILWAUKEE BUCKS--(25-23)-The Bucks beat New York in Milwaukee, 107-100 Saturday, Feb. 1st. Sam Cassell scored 24 points and Anthony Mason matched a season-high with 13 rebounds as the Bucks won for the 10th time out of 12 games. Two games over .500 for the first time this season.


14-NEW ORLEANS HORNETS--(26-24)-The Hornets beat Boston at New Orleans, 103-96 Monday, Feb. 3rd. Jamal Mashburn scored 30 points for the second straight game. Mashburn was quoted as saying, "I need to be the leader out there." I agree 100%. David Wesley scored 18 points for New Orleans and P.J. Brown added 12 points and 12 rebounds.


15-BOSTON CELTICS--(27-22)-Celtics have lost four in a row. Boston is really missing Walker. Paul Pierce ranks fifth in the NBA in scoring, averaging 26.4 points per game. Boston ranks 16th in the NBA in overall scoring per game, averaging 93.7 points per game.


16.PHILADELPHIA 76ers--(25-24)-The 76ers beat Miami at Philly, 104-99 this past Friday, Jan. 31st. Keith Van Horn scored a season-high 33 points and Eric Snow added a season-high 21 points as the 76ers handed Miami their eighth straight road loss. Allen Iverson scored 25 points. That win snapped a four game losing streak for Philadelphia.


17.-SEATTLE SONICS--(21-25)-Seattle beat Golden State at Seattle, 91-88 last Tuesday, Jan. 28th. Gary Payton's 3-pointer with 42 seconds left, gave Seattle its 14th straight win over the Warriors. Payton leads the team in points scored per game, with 20.8.


18.-GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS--(21-27)-The Warriors defeated Memphis in California, 101-91 Monday night, Feb. 3rd. Forward Troy Murphy(6-11 inches) scored 21 points along with his teammate guard Gilbert Arenas to lead Golden State to a much needed win. Arenas hit two of four 3-point shots.


19.-WASHINGTON WIZARDS--(24-25)-The Wizards beat New Orleans at Washington, 109-104 Saturday, Feb. 1st. With two starters out, Michael Jordan scored a season-high 45 points. I knew the old man still had it in him. He was 18-for-33 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Jordan played 44 minutes, the most for him this season. Byron Russell added 13 points for Washington.


20.-ORLANDO MAGIC--(24-26)-The Magic beat Cleveland in Orlando, 113-108 last Wednesday, Jan. 29th. Tracy McGrady, the NBA's leading scorer returned from a one game suspension and scored 31 points, grab 12 rebounds and make three foul shots in the final 13.7 seconds of the game to lead his team to victory. McGrady scored 14 points in the fourth quarter. He was 15-of-18 from the free throw line.
