Default Do you get the Big Ten Network?

Here's the website. You plug in your zip code and they tell you what cable providers in your area are carrying it.

http://www.bigtennetwork.com/

In a related story, most of the campus in Happy Valley will get the network...

Great...I'll drive to Happy Valley to watch Ohio State play YSU.

I've done that about 7,000 times by now. According to an article out of Michigan today most major cable providers (Time Warner, Charter, etc.) will have the Big Ten Network by launch time. Those with Comcast are still SOL.

We all have Alex. I think I've done it 8,000 times.

I have Armstrong Cable so I'm in waiting mode.

Who really knows though? I don't doubt you on the article but we've been "hearing this, hearing that" all summer long with this b.s. The more it drags out the more pissed off I get.

I could get it if I had direct tv, but I had it before and the service sucked. I now have dish network.

Oh, and 78, I did put in for a request for dish network to carry it.

I like the idea of the BTN, especially when college hoops season will come around, but they're going about it in a very egotistical way and it could cost them if they don't get picked up by more providers. Really, it's been an embarrassment to any Big Ten supporter. I don't usually get in on letter writing campaigns, but in this instance I'm tempted to write the Big Ten folks.

Comcast covers 35% of the TV homes in the Big Ten states. 2 million or so just in Chicago.

Big Ten Network wants to be on Comcast's extended basic. Comcast wants BTN on their sports package with NFL Network, NBATV, Fox Soccer...Good for the BTN for trying this. But, it's not working out, so DROP the idea or lower what you want Comcast to pay you. BTN wants something like $1.10 a month per customer to be on extended basic. That doesn't if seem like it's close to a reasonable range to even BEGIN negotiations and it's getting pretty damn close to launch for that, though.

Smaller cable providers pay that because they want new subscribers. Saying we offer these channels as basic extended and they offer them as sports tier will help those providers out. It doesn't make sense for Comcast to do it, but the BTN rolls in with a sense of entitlement and so far it's not working.

The bottomline is that we all, with cable TV, pay for channels others don't want. The BTN needs to realize that not everyone is going to watch their channel and proceed to negotiate as such or stick their programming with the sports tier.

Comments like this don't help.... Elizabeth Conlisk, vice president of communications for the Big Ten Network...

"It's Comcast's decision whether they pass any kind of cost along to their customers. Only about 30 percent of cable bills go toward programming costs. The other 70 percent -- there's a lot of profit in there. I imagine they use a lot of that profit to pay down the debt on their new building in Philadelphia."

It really is just embarrassing to see the BTN operate like this. I want the network, but I don't want the way they're trying to go about getting this done.
