I wouldn't put Holmes ahead of M Faulk, either, if Faulk hadn't been so injury prone in recent years. Most everyone else has a rather lurid love affair with Holmes that I don't share.

Meanwhile, I don't hear anyone complaing about where I put Portis.

He's second in the entire league in rushing, has 11 rushing TDs, and averages 5 ypc. Yes, he is a "streaky" fumbler, but that hasn't happened in a couple weeks. Aside from that, he is the complete package. There's nothing not to like otherwise!

Just because you like other players more doesn't mean you can ignore simple facts in front of you. It's like refusing to acknowledge Michael Jordan was a great player. I hate the Cowboys, but I still pick them to win sometimes. I think this is top-five RBs in the NFL according to what's getting done on the field, not personal preferences. But be that way.

Of course I can ignore statistics. Look at the QB list thread where the likes of Bledsoe make the top five. The guy is not a top five QB in this league at this time, statistically and otherwise.

If all we're looking at is statistics then we're not talking opinions, we should all just cut and paste the top five stats winners from nfl.com...

Don't be silly. Of course, it's preferences. On the QB list, T Green has impressive stats, but with Pennington's return to eligiblity, T Green comes off of my list.

1. Clinton Portis
2. LaDanian Tomlinson
3. Priest Holmes
4. Jamal Lewis
5. Ahman Green
6. Marshall Faulk
7. Deuce McAllister
8. Fred Taylor
9. Ricky Williams
10. Edgerrin James
11. Stephen Davis
12. Shaun Alexander

Once securing a starting job, I can definitely see both DeShaun Foster and Kevan Barlow on this list also. Knowing what DeShaun can do from his UCLA days, I'd just love to see him get a shot.

Why Clinton Portis makes my top 12, but not my top 5: Quentin Griffin.

The Broncos o-line and gameplan facilitates rushing success. There's more than stats at play here, and I stand by LaDainian Tomlinson as my top choice. It'd be tough to keep Jamal Lewis out of the top 5 at this point, though.

Next year Kevan Barlow will be on the top 10 list. 16 yards away from 1000 this year while mostly splitting time with Hearst. Best tandem backs in the league Barlow/Hearst.

I agree, Erickson. But what will happen to Hearst?

Who knows. This offseason is going to be very interesting for the Niners. A lot of players will not be on the team next season. I picture Hearst a cap casualty.

Or the #2, instead of the #1, if he agrees to renegotiate his contract. If not, there may likely be a bidder for his services in New England...

1. LT
2. Clinton Portis
3. Jamal Lewis
4. Ahman Green
5. Deuce McAllister

When you run for 1,600+ and catch 100 passes, you get a free pass to the top of the list.

1. Priest Holmes - Unstoppable, 27 rush TD (NFL record)
2. Clinton Portis - Young, 16 rush TD
3. Ahman Green - Main reason for GB success, TD's, 100 yd games
4. LaDainian Tomlinson - Great numbers for worst record team. LT = the Chargers WR and RB
5. Deuce McCallister
6. Jamal Lewis - Low TD total for over 2000 yds
7. Shaun Alexander
8. Marshall Faulk - injuries, injuries, would be higher w/o them
