Default Lakers lose Bynum for 8-12 weeks

OUCH, it's his MCL. This guy was turning into a beast, posting 40-point games and routinely having double-doubles. He missed the second half of last season, too. Is this just bad luck or a disturbing pattern for the young big man? He's trying to keep up with Greg Odom and his injury-proneness, apparently...

Without Bynum, where do the Lakers stand? They made it to the Finals last year without him and I think can do it again, but absolutely must have him to be a legit contender...

I am beginning to wonder if he is going to end up like Ralph Sampson and Sam Bowie where his career is basically over and done with after five or six years due to a plethora of injuries.

Nah, I think with homecourt advantage over the Celtics and a vastly-improved Laker crew, they are actually the favorites should the two meet again in the Finals (provided LA finishes with the same or better record than Boston).

I think Bynum will be back before the playoffs, but then again that's what we thought last year too.
