Default Top Rookies in 2005?

Now somewhat of an annual thing, who will be the breakout rookies of 2005? Here is a quick list of rookies who may make an impact in the big leagues this season.

Gavin Floyd, SP, Philadelphia- Had a great year in AA, moderate success at AAA and earned a ML call up in September. He has a good chance to earn the 5th spot in the Phillies' rotation out of spring training.

Dallas McPherson, 3B, Los Angeles/Anaheim- One of baseball's top prospects will take over for Troy Glaus at 3B. He is a power hitter who had some success in September last season. Along with Casey Kotchman, he is a corner stone of the Angels' future.

Scott Kazmir, SP, Tampa Bay- One of baseball's top pitching prospects was stolen by the Devil Rays from the Mets in the Victor Zambrano trade last July. Is he considered a rookie?

Nick Swisher, OF, Oakland- Could be this year's Bobby Crosby. He tore up the Pacific Coast League last season and is definetely ready for the show.

I've seen Dallas McPherson play quite a bit -- he played a season for the team I follow the closest in the Midwest League. He is a good one. If he stays healthy, and handles the defensive end as he did in the minors, he should be fine.
If Joe Mauer is still eligible to be the ROY, he has a shot as well. He only played in 35 games last season and had 107 ABs.
I like your comments about the guys and agree that these are a good group of rookies. There could be some surprises, as there frequently are, and some of the D'Rays kids and Brewers (Weeks, Hardy) could have good enough springs to earn starting spots. They are worth looking at.

The 2b job in Houston is Burke's to lose. The main reason they let Kent bounce is because the Houston management believes Burke is ready to be an everyday player at the major league level.

I think Floyd will get every opportunity to win the number five slot in the Philly rotation this spring. He looked like he was ready to leave the minors behind last fall.
