Exclamation T.O. Gone From Dallas

It has been the lead story all evening on ESPN:

Terrell Owens has been released by the Dallas Cowboys.

Should we blame Romo for this? Or better yet, McNabb!

No real surprise here. ESPN has been speculating it was coming down the pike for a couple of weeks now despite Jones' adamant denials that his status with the team was even being discussed.

The big question now is, is his career over? Who is going to take a chance on the guy now?

Of course we all know how this is going to turn out:

The Eagles trade McNabb to Denver for Jay Cutler, and T.O. makes his triumphant return to Philly!

I don't think McNabb would be the obstacle on bringing T.O. to the Eagles.

Neither do I. Here is the thing with T. O. He turns 36 in December and check out this story from the Dallas Morning News:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...n.7b3c137.html

Thirty Six seems to be a crucial age for WRs in the NFL otherwise healthy productive receivers seem to start showing their age around 35/36 years old and Owens had his least productive year in Dallas last season. He caught only 69 balls despite having the most thrown to him on the team last year. There was a lot of talk about him having lost a step and not being as strong off the line as he was two or three years ago.

The thing is Owens has probably peaked and I don't know that teams are going to be that anxious to go after him given all of the baggage he brings with him into the locker room.

Brad O. looks at why T.O. was released: https://www.sports-central.org/sport...rell_owens.php

I heard on ESPN the commentator was saying Tennessee is a likely destination, or at least fit for him. Heh.

What about Detroit? When you're coming off being 0-16, if you have reason to believe that signing Osama bin Laden would prevent it from happening again, don't you at least seriously consider doing it?

And to prove that I'm not one of Eric Holder's "cowards," I can't help but wonder aloud about whether a black head coach might do a better job of keeping T.O. in line. It hasn't been tried yet, so why not? Look how Mike Singletary dealt with Vernon Davis last year; and didn't T.O. play for Dallas after having stomped on their hallowed star and damn near inciting a riot?

Make it happen, Jed!

Detroit as a good fit for T.O.? I don't see that at all. Why would they even consider that? They traded one egotistical receiver that was in the way of Calvin Johnson, so why go sign another one? It doesn't improve their WRs and has a chance of hurting them.

T.O. needs to go to a place where he would be the clear #1 WR and throwing to him won't hinder the development of anyone else. He is a #2 WR, but is going to demand play like a 1. Seems like Tennessee, the Ravens would be two potential options. But, any team with a #1 WR already, like the Lions, shouldn't even take the time to look at Owens.

What about New England? I read that Tomlinson could be leaving the Chargers; a crazy thought popped into my head about if both of those two were to sign with the Patriots.

QB: Tom Brady
RB: LaDainian Tomlinson
WR1: Randy Moss
WR2: Terrell Owens
WR3: Wes Welker

Scary-as lineup right there.

Except the Pats just signed Fred Taylor to a deal so I doubt they would go after Tomlinson as well given they have other holes to fill on defense.

My money is he'll end up there in two years after he blows up in Buffalo. He'll slowly rot away in Oakland in the twilight of his career.

I still say that the 49ers should have taken a shot at bringing him back.

Mike Singletary might have been just the guy to straighten T.O. out (when he's not too busy scoring 29 straight points for his team in a college basketball game!).
