Default Bowl News

The MAC will send a team to the Silicon Valley Bowl. This is way overdue and I hope it becomes perminent. I'm sure SCMB's other MAC apologist, Kevin, will agree with me on this. If C-USA can have five tie-ins the MAC deserves three.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1930137

The following bowl bids have been accepted:

Alamo Bowl- Ohio State
Capital One Bowl- Iowa
Continental Tire Bowl- North Carolina
Emerald Bowl- Navy
Houston Bowl- UTEP
Outback Bowl- Wisconsin
Sun Bowl- Purdue

I hope it too. Actually, with Clemson and South Carolina bowing out, it's very possible, maybe even likely, that every bowl elegible team, save maybe one or two, gets a bowl this year....both College Football News and USA Today are projecting SIX MAC bowl teams as several conferences don't have enough bowl eligible teams to meet their own tie-ins.

There is way too much coporate sponsorship in these bowls. I mean there are so many bowls that half of COllege Football gets a game, including the Joe's Auto Body Bowl. I would love to see some of the small schools get into a big bowl game like Boise State and Utah. Utah should be in a BCS game, but you never know.

Bowl Games=$$$$$$$$

That's the simple equation as to why we will never see a play off system. Sad but true. This season has proven even more so that we need it- likely three major undefeateds, two more mid-majors and a slew of good one loss teams. Lets see how Utah stacks up against the majors. Instead we'll likely see Utah and Boston College/Virginia Tech in the nightmare of all BCS bowl games.

Right now the BCS looks like this:
1. USC
2. Oklahoma
3. Auburn
4. Cal
5. Texas
6. Utah
Big East- Boston College
Big Ten- Michigan
ACC- Virginia Tech

Sad that Texas will miss out on the BCS bowl because of Boston College and even Virginia Tech. I've been a long supporter of the bowls but this is friggin' ridiculous. This season has swayed me to other side.

I wonder if the NCAA realizes that they would make just as much money if not more money with a playoff.

I doubt it. Unless the NCAA adopted a "play off within the bowls" system, the higher seed would likely host the lower seed and get the bigger cut of the money.

Don't you think if Virginia Tech beats Virginia and Miami they deserve to be in a BCS game?

No, only because Texas, a 10-1 team with their one loss to Oklahoma, deserves it more. Otherwise the Hokies deserve it unless you consider soon to be 10-1 Louisville better.

Well, the Big East is looking like a mess now that Syracuse is hammering BC. That would put Pitt, Syracuse, BC, and WVU at 4-2 in the conference. Not sure what the tie-breaker would be here as Pitt beat both BC and WVU, but Syracuse holds a win over Pitt, but should be disqualfied because it lost to Temple.

If Syracuse beats Boston College:

Pitt Wins If:
They beat USF next week

Syracuse Wins If:
Pitt loses to USF next week

Who would've thought that Pitt-USF game could mean so much?

You know I may be mistaken on this, but isn't there an out clause in the BCS where they can deny a team from one of the major conferences an automatic bid if the don't place a team in the top 15 of the BCS standings? I don't remember, but I thought there was some sort of provision like that in the BCS agreement.

It could happen with the Big East. If BC doesn't win, Pitt may get the bid...which to me would be sad.
