Default My visit with Duke guard Nolan Smith (pics)

My best friend growing up was Nolan Smith, son of late NBA player Derek Smith. We hadn't seen each other since almost 12 years, but both ended up in NC where he has become a star at Duke (#2) playing basketball. I finally visited him this August for a behind-the-scenes look at Duke!

Nolan's tiny dog

Good times! I met a bunch of the team (including Steph Curry's little brother), saw Coach K's schedule posted in the locker room, met an assistant coach, and saw Nolan's nice pad. I wonder how college athletes get all this money. Nolan was taking a phone call from his "brother" Michael Beasley of the Miami Heat. His sister works as a trainer in Miami for pro athletes and has a ton of contacts, so maybe I can get my start in the sports agent business with this!

Cool pics, Marc. It must have been cool to get the behind-the-scenes tour. I do like how you were able to work in a reference to you BMW.

Interesting he talked to Beasley given everything in the news today about him having something of a meltdown this weekend.

He was talking to Beasley (who is younger than Nolan, which surprised me) when I was with him and before or when this news was breaking. Nolan logged onto Twitter in the Duke locker room and I had him follow my feeds.

I thought it would be interesting to show his car. A lot of prominent NCAA players have nice rides. I remember it being the same when I attended UK.

But yeah, it was cool. I hope to go back regularly and hang out, maybe see a game.
