Default 2010 Clay Court Tournaments before Roland Garros

We can keep the discussion about the clay court season under this thread.

Here is my preview:

Sports Central / Sports Articles and Columns / Tennis / Clay Court Season is Here!

Monte Carlo is next week in the men's side. Charleston (next week) and Stuttgart are coming up before Rome in WTA.

Best

Glad tennis is coming back; nothing beats Wimbledon for me! It's a summer tradition. As for the clay court, I'm hoping Rafa can stay healthy and not be bothered by knee problems. It really seems like the same old storylines, though, Mert. Tennis needs something new to stir interest.

Federer is not playing Monte Carlo. I guess he will join everyone else in Rome.
Here are the quarterfinal match-ups:

Nadal vs. Ferrero
Djokovic vs. Nalbandian
Montanes vs. Verdasco
Kohlschreiber vs. Ferrer

Kohlschreiber lost only 3 games in beating Andy Murray earlier !!

Nadal won Monte-Carlo with even more ease than everyone had predicted.
He beat Fernando Verdasco 6/0 6/1 in the finals. Wow..

By the way, a new record: Nobody in the Open Era has won the same tournament six years in a row until today. And he can do it again next week in Barcelona. There were a few 5 in a rows..

Francesca Schiavone of Italy won Barcelona WTA title, and Samantha Stosur won in Charleston her first WTA title.

Onto next week.

I don't know that tennis needs anything new. The product is good, and the storylines are there if you're interested in them. Rafa's return, Henin's return to Roland Garros, Federer vs. Nadal, struggling Ivanovic returns to the site of her only Grand Slam, Djokovic and Murray and del Potro, etc. Clay court season also offers some of the more interesting non-Slam tournaments.

Stosur's continuing development as a singles player is nice to see. I don't see her being a factor at Roland Garros, but she's certainly a threat in the early rounds of the tournament, not someone who can be taken lightly. Do you have an early women's favorite at the French, Mert?

For the women, it's a hard pick. If I have to pick one, I pick Henin. I would love to see a Henin vs. Serena final.

Nadal has pulled out of Barcelona. Smart decision on his part, he is trying to save himself for Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros.

Jankovic took out both Williams sisters then lost to Martinez Sanchez in Rome!

Federer is having a dismal clay court season, losing in the semis of Estoril, not even a Masters Series tournament. Let's see if he gets better in Madrid.

Madrid update:

Aravane Rezai vs. Venus Williams in the finals on Sunday.

Finally, after a long year of wait, we have a new Federer-Nadal duel on the menu in the finals.

Nadal and Rezai won the titles.
It looks like we are moving towards another Federer-Nadal final in Roland Garros. The women's side will be wide open.

@Mertov: yeah its good to know that Nadal has won the title. It also seems to me as if we’re heading towards what you said. It’ll be great if it happens like this ‘coz both the players are in good forms and are quite popular among different circles of sport center and sports magazines.
