Cool Anthony's Week 12 Picks

1

Last week: 6-10. Season totals: 70-87-3, Pct. .447. Best Bets: 14-18-1, Pct. .439.

Home team in capital letters; point spreads (opening line) in parentheses after underdog team; selections with point spreads in bold.

SUNDAY

TENNESSEE 16, N.Y. Jets 13 (+5) - Three weeks after his former team covered an extremely similar spread visiting the Titans, Brett Favre's current team does likewise, giving the Jets a fifth consecutive spread cover against The Team That Should Really Be Known As The Nashville Oilers in the process.

N.Y. Giants 27, ARIZONA 21 (+3 1/2) - Been going back and forth on this game all week - but in the final analysis, the Giants appear to be unstoppable right now even though Brandon Jacobs had an MRI on his swollen knee Monday and may sit this one out.

New England 24 (+3), MIAMI 20 - I was all ready to go with the Dolphins here until Joey Porter opened his legendarily-big mouth - and not for nothing, but home teams are 2-5 both ways in AFC East games thus far this year.

JACKSONVILLE 23, Minnesota 10 (+1 1/2) - The Vikings haven't manned up on the road all year and both of their starting defensive tackles might be serving the first week of four-game suspensions by the time this game kicks off. And it's always interesting - and often quite lucrative - when a team finally gets a particular opponent at home after having played them multiple times on the road (all three prior Vikings-Jaguars games having been played at Minnesota).

CLEVELAND 20, Houston 7 (+3) - As was the case Monday night, Brady Quinn gets to face a vast inferior at quarterback and the Texans are four years removed from their most recent cold-weather victory.

Tampa Bay 16, DETROIT 15 (+9) - An extremely dangerous game for the Buccaneers, who play each of their NFC South rivals the next three weeks, have non-covered six in a row against Detroit (albeit losing only two outright) and are 2-9 straight up on artificial turf from 2006 to the present.

BALTIMORE 19, Philadelphia 14 (+1) - While the tie was actually a virtual win for the Eagles since it renders their 0-3 division record irrelevant for tie-breaking purposes, it nonetheless made the Eagles 0-4-1 this year in games decided by a TD or less - so unless you think they can blow the Ravens out, which even the unbeaten Titans couldn't manage, you have to go with Baltimore in this one.

Chicago 14, ST. LOUIS 3 (+9) - The get-up-and-go the Rams showed in their first two games under Jim Haslett has long since gotten up and gone, and they will be without both Steven Jackson and Orlando Pace, the latter likely for the season.

KANSAS CITY 17 (+3), Buffalo 10 - You knew the Bills couldn't keep winning without a quarterback and they sunk to a new low Monday night with their first loss to a team with a losing record (which all five of the teams they've beaten have, and are in fact 14-36 among them). And the road team in this series can't sink a whole lot lower than the 1-10 outright and 2-9 pointwise records it has logged in the eleven most recent games therein, and Buffalo is 21-47 straight up on grass dating back to 1995.

DALLAS 20, San Francisco 14 (+10 1/2) - I'm satisfied that Mike Singletary has changed the culture in the Frisco locker room and the Cowboys show only one cover in their last six at home dating back to last December.

DENVER 31, Oakland 6 (+10) - No reason Mike Shanahan's mastery over Al Davis shouldn't continue - and Oakland's offensive-touchdown drought, now spanning three games, just might continue as well, especially in the cold weather, in which the Raiders have scored 66 points the last seven times they've been exposed to it.

ATLANTA 20, Carolina 13 (+1) - The Panthers are getting almost nothing out of their passing game right now and will have a hard time extending their four-game cover streak at the Georgia Dome.

SEATTLE 17 (+3 1/2), Washington 14 - Yeah, I know - the Seahawks have simply been killing me all year, but the Redskins may have seen their bubble burst Sunday night and the home team in this one has won and covered four in a row and six of the last seven. Furthermore, Washington is 18-33 straight up since 1997 as a visitor on the carpet.

SAN DIEGO 33, Indianapolis 26 (+3) - Nothing is coming easy for the Colts this season: Even their biggest patsy ran them to six points without its first-string quarterback at their building last week; and the Chargers have been anything but a patsy to them of late, beating them three in a row and covering four straight at their expense.

MONDAY NIGHT

Green Bay
31 (+3), NEW ORLEANS 27 - The entire NFC South has lost only twice at home all season, but one of those losses was by the Saints, on Monday night, where New Orleans is 9-16 in franchise history; plus, like the Vikings, they may be gutted by "Lasix-gate" by the time they take the field for their game this week.

BEST BETS: JACKSONVILLE, CLEVELAND, DENVER
