Talking Spring Training 2004

Spring Training is just around the corner and am I ever excited. Baseball is back!

Tampa Bay and New York will be starting camps early because of the trip to Japan to open the season.

For me Spring Training always starts when Camp Leo opens for pitchers for the Atlanta Braves which was yesterday.

Use this thread to discuss Spring Training and all relevant subjects.

My school gets a "winter break" in mid-February. The superintendent thinks it helps from spreading illness or something like that. Anyway, air fares are low so I'm heading down to Florida right around when Spring Training begins.

My grandparents have a winter home in Florida (they spend spring and summer back home in Pennsylvania) that is about 10 minutes from where the Texas Rangers used to hold spring training. The good part is that the they are about an hour away from Tampa so I'm planning to try to go to Legends Field at some point to see the team adn try to get some autographs. I went down to Florida for spring break last year and saw the Tampa Yankees (FSL, High A) play at Legends Field. Beautiful field and I'm looking forward to potentially getting the chance to meet some of the Yankees.

I am in spring training central!. I have the A's practice facility down the end of my street and their actual stadium about 2 minutes away by car. I am also just about 5 minutes away from where the Giants train and play. Cannot wait.

I'm digging out from under another foot of snow, but am happy that Spring Training is nearly here again. I'm looking forward to seeing the reports from the sites and hope to make the trip to Florida or Arizona someday myself.

Yes I am very excited. Still curious who Greg Maddux is going to sign with.

This is kind of the slow time for me as far as sports. I will watch basketball, but it doesn't hold my interest as much as baseball, so I can't wait for baseball to get going, even if it is Spring Training games.

bama, I heard a rumor that Maddux might sign with the Dodgers..just a rumor though, and you know how those things go. Anybody else hear anything?

Just a small complaint about spring training tickets. My ticket nearly doubled in price due to mailing and a convienence charge. $10 dollars turned into $17.50. Still, I'm already set for the first A's game on the 5th and I am looking to see the Giants vs the Rangers the following week.

I'm looking forward to the Jays' season. If they were in any other division, people would take them seriously, but it will be really hard to get anywhere in the AL East. I'm obviously about as far away from spring training as you can be, but I'm planning on seeing games against the Sox, Expos, and Yankees in May, June, and August this year ....but as for training camp, things are pretty much set for the Jays, our roster is pretty much ready to go and we just need to get in shape before the season!

Another season approaches for the lowly Pirates and although they have reportedly signed Raul Mondesi its hard to imagine them even being close to .500. But for some reason in Pittsburgh we are stupid enough to have that hope that maybe our team will be good just one year.

I'm a huge baseball fan, i love the game. But I am throwing this season away, because as a Blue Jays fan there is no hope. We had a strong offseason too, picking up some quality arms and re-signing Roy Halladay. But when you have the Yankees and Red Sox signing everybody, and BOTH of them are in your division, that is when you write off this year. There's no chance to make the playoffs and there is nothing to play for, it's a shame.

It's always interesting to see which big star will be lost for the season due to injury in the Spring. I t always happens. Probably be Griffey Jr.
