Default Knicks and Suns Swing a Blockbuster

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1700818

Knicks Get:
Stephon Marbury
Penny Hardaway
Cezary Trybanski

Suns Get:
Antonio McDyess
Charlie Ward
Howard Eisley
Macej Lampe
Milos Vujanic (Rights)

Well Isiah is certainly going after a "win now" attitude. The Knicks now have an all star PG, something that was needed desperatley, and a former superstar to bring off the bench. I guess the line up will look like this now:
PG- Marbury
SG- Houston
SF- Keith Van Horn
PF- Kurt Thomas
C- Mutombo

Looks like Frank Williams will be headed back to the bench. Too bad since he was playing some good ball of late. Hopefully he can come off the bench as the sixth man and provide a change of pace. I wish Marbury didn't come with the "Starbury" label but I think we need him to make a play off push and he really wants to play in New York. We basically gave Phoenix dead weight. McDyess was doing nothing, Ward lost his spot to Williams and Eisley has played mediocre at best. Macej Lampe is a long way off and who knows what he'll turn out to be and Vujanic is playing in Europe for a few years. Anyone know anything about this Trybanski guy we got as well?

This seems a bit of a knee jerk reaction to the bad start to the season the Suns were having. I dont follow basketball closely, but I am a homer for the Suns. They started bad, but then picked up some key injuries. I'd have prefered to see Marbury stay.

I think that they are clearing cap space so that they can take a run at Kobe this offseason. With this trade, they have something like 20 million in cap space for next year.

Now finally the Knicks got a true point guard that could also score!! Even if the Knicks are over the salary cap, i'd rather the Knicks be over the salary cap with Marbury than with Eisley and/or Ward. Though I think it's a bad call to give up the Knicks 1st round picks in the future.... but I guess that's the price you pay for an All-Star.

Now the Knicks need to find a suitor for Shandon Anderson. Anderson is a decent player coming off the bench, but he's getting paid too much money.

I still think Dolan sucks as an owner! :tsk:

Either way, you gotta give Isiah props, just for the mere fact that we are having a discussion about the Knicks. No Pun Intended. Hopefully, the Knicks see better times with the "shakeup".

Ooh, I like this move A LOT for the Knicks. And maybe Houston, some picks, and money could be shipped for Kobe down the road. Imagine Steph and Kobe.

Anyway, the Knicks need to fill MSG and hometown boy Marbury will bring new excitement to the team and fans. Way to go, Isiah. I expect him to draft better than the Knicks have recently and get some size for the team.

We will have to wait a while to see that, the Knicks lost there next two first rounders to Pheonix. And who would the Knicks trade with for Kobe? They are already back up until 06 for the draft.

Let's hope that maybe Kobe wants to come to NY. So lets say they do a sign and trade, Kobe for Houston. Maybe the Knicks could throw in Curt Thomas and/or one of the point guards (Frank Williams, Noochie Morris). That would be a scenario with little complaints from me.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Isiah try to get at least a first round pick dealing Thomas, Van Horn or Houston. That's a likely scenario if we don't make the play offs. If we do, even if it's a 1st round exit, the core of the team will likely stay together. A play off team in the east really only needs to win about 45 games to get in. This team is more than capable of reaching that. A play off spot could go a long way to better year in 2004-05. This team is still afew years away from being what it once was but Isiah has sure made the future a lot brighter for Knicks fans. Something that never would've happened under Layden.

The trade is a good move for the Knicks, and I would agree that the Suns are trying to clear cap space for a superstar this coming offseason. The Knicks have a lot of trading power in my opinion; Houston, Thomas and Van Horn are all good choices for a trade. However, none of those three are really superstars. I personally wouldn't like Kurt Thomas on my team (I don't like his game) but any three of them would be useful to get somebody steady and young for New York. Good move.

As a Spurs fan, I'm ultimately pleased with this acquistion of Ward to SA. I always liked Ward in NY and I think he can provide a Porter/Kerr like experienced feel to the team.

We can offer him an opportunity to get minutes; a chance to go deep in the playoffs; and an environment that suits his persona.

Ward belongs in SA and should slot in well.

The Suns want Kobe. Also I heard that the Knicks are interested in Rasheed Wallace.... anyone else heard this?

It would make sense for the Suns to try to get Kobe in the offseason with the cap space they cleared; however if they're not able to meet his contract expectations, they'll be thoroughly screwed.

If Isiah wants to get Rasheed Wallace, then he'll have to trade away one or (probably) more of: Houston, Van Horn, Mutombo.
