Default MLB thought of the Day - March & April

Post anything about the games and MLB in this thread for this Month and Next.

Well, MLB started today and what a game. Brandon Moss homers in the top of the 9th to tie it and it goes to extras.
Sox put up 2 runs in the 10th (thanks to Manny) and the A's fight back against Paps in the bottom of the 10th but come up a run short.

What a great game for the crowd in Japan!

Baseball is here my friends... enjoy the season. :thumbsup2:

Congrats to Boston and the hitting of Manny Ramirez for winning the first game of the year.

Last night's game was interesting to watch. The Nats' new ballpark appears to be very nice and they did a fine job of "breaking it in". Unfortunately, they wasted a great performance by Odalis Perez. Tim Hudson had a rocky 1st inning and threw 6 2/3 perfect innings following the hits in the 1st.
John Rauch (?) came in to save the game -- where was Chad Cordero? Sure it was cold, but he needs to be ready for conditions like that. John Rauch pitched pretty well, allowing only a double in his inning, but the tying run scored on a passed ball by Paul LoDuca.
Ryan Zimmerman, the face of the franchise, ended the game for the home team with their first home run in their new ballpark. I hope the fan that caught the ball gets his autograph on it. That will be a ball for the collectors.

I don't know. I switched over to the game around the 8th inning or so for a few minutes and I thought they showed Cordero warming up in the pen. One would have thought Acta would have brought him on in the 9th to face Chipper, Texeria, and Francouer. Maybe he had trouble getting loose and they didn't want to risk losing him for a month with an injury caused by not being able to loosen up.

Who would have thought the Rays, Royals and Nats would all be undefeated at the same time.

That will change quickly.
The Twins looked pretty impressive, stealing 4 bases, tonight. Livan Hernandez came in and did what he does best -- he threw soft-toss and the Angels couldn't really do much with it. Maybe that's why they started him instead of Bonser tonight. They knew the Angels would be amped up and Bonser is a power-pitcher.

A double headache:

Cubs: Zambrano had a good game, Fukudome a monster game, & Woods an ugly game & Howry followed his example in a tough 10 inning loss >>> Brewers 4 Cubs 3

ChiSox: Buehrle had a ridiculously bad game, Thome had a monster game, Dotel had a hideous game & >>> Indians 10 ChiSox 8

Tark, I'm afraid you'll have to get used to that sort of score on the South Side this season. That outcome will happen more often than not also.

Without a doubt, Cat...

This last off season was one of the most disappointing in recent memory since everyone else was pushing to get stronger while we sat on our hands. A 'White Flag' before the season started...

The Cubs have rendered me mute since '69. I don't get too high nor too low. They have to do it before I come to expect much than more of the same. They look strong enough to almost make me want to start talking this year but we'll see...

If Gagne and Wood don't get it together it could be even more of a free-for-all in the Central. Neither one had much zip on any of their pitches which can probably be chalked up to the cold temps and not being able to get fully loose, but, the bigger issue is neither was locating any of their pitches at all and were getting knocked around the park.

Zito is showing no signs of looking like an ace pitcher. How smart has Billy Beane looked by dumping Mulder and Zito just before they went in the tank? Mulder did give the Cards one good season but Zito has been nothing but mediocre to awful thus far for the Giants.

I hope you're right doub.

Even though my Reds lost yesterday, I think it was a good day for Reds fans. Harang pitched decent (2 earned runs, 6 innings) and the bullpen did their part. The bats didn't get going, and the Reds lost a tough game against very good pitching.

The bats will come around and the pitching should continue to keep this team in most games. If Gagne and Wood continue to struggle, the Reds might have the best pen of the three teams - which might be the difference.

Maybe I am just looking for the silver lining in an opening day loss - who knows
