Default Don't You Just Love Those "Unwritten Rules"?

Apparently Orioles catcher Jake Fox broke one of them - and in an exhibition game no less:

I certainly understand the irritation here. In a regular season game, even with the big lead, swinging in this situation is fine, but let the minor league pitcher get a strike on you before you swing the bat.

If I'm Showalter, I lead Fox off in the first game against the Tigers. Let him get his medicine then put it behind both the O's and Tigers. I hope he gets a fastball in the ribs. It's bullshit to show a minor leaguer up in Spring.

Sounds like a great idea. Fox will get his sometime this season. I can see Verlander hitting him in the ribs with a 98 MPH fastball, just to make a point.

Here is where I've never understood baseball. If it's a problem, make it a rule, otherwise don't get offended if someone "breaks" it. The "old-school" traditions of baseball, i.e. beaning a guy in retaliation, is just ludicrous to me.

Kinda like fighting in Hockey the players police themselves. That's all.
