I would agree. They saw the medical reports and decided that an insurance policy was in order. Dannys Baez is exactly what they needed.

Turned out to be a great move. I hate to see the Rays lose out on his services but, what good is a closer even of Baez's calibur if you can't get him in the game. 41 saves as a Devil Ray??? Sounds pretty good to me.

Baez is a very solid closer and this was a very smart move by Colletti. Even if Gagne was healthy we would still have a great set-up man with Baez. We also have Brazoban still as well. Keep an eye on Kuo as well, he has great stuff and has been impressive so far. Hong Kuo is also a Tommy John surgery guy though, but I think that is a requirement to be a Dodger pitcher these days.

It seems as though the news may not be as bad as first thought. They are saying Gange may return in to months I just wonder how effective he can really be. Great move by the Dodgers to get Baez.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Gagne setting up Baez for a while. He needs to see what he has before being moved into the closer's spot.

gagne has been throwing fire for a while. at $8M per and baez in the closer role, i dont think there's a reason to rush him back either.

Gagne should be throwing within three weeks and could return sometime in June. I think GilbertArenas is right though, he might come and have to earn his job back. The dodgers aren't going to rush Gagne back into the closer's role unless he is 100% and can close in back to back games. That might not be for awhile. Plus, he would have to be rusty, coming off two surgeries and not playing competitive baseball since 2004.

Gagne is too valuable (at 100%) for the Dodgers to rush him back. Let him get his stuff together in AA or AAA and come up when he is completely ready. Then, have him set Baez up for a while.
It has been said that you shouldn't lose your job due to injury, but Baez at 100% is better than Gagne at 85%.
By the way, welcome to the boards, JPK.
