Default Coy

I was going to put this in our buy or sell thread, but (a) I never get a chance to post (:lol and (b) I think this deserves a thread of its own.

1. Who you got for Coach of the Year?

2. If the Patriots go 16-0, is BB automatically disqualified for COY due to Spygate?

I would think Belichick would get it... but honestly, he did break a rule and although he paid his fine and it had no outcome on that game (ect, ect), I do think part of COY should be based on integraty, and that mistake on his part could very well cost him COY. So I would not be surprised if he is passed up; nor would I be mad.
Also, I think there are a lot of coaches out there that have done a good job this year.

Some of the obvious just based on records are:
1. Belichick
2. Wade Phillips
3. Tony Dungy

But these teams have talent so you would expect their records - with the exception of NE if they go undefeated.

Coaches that have done an outstanding job with-out a team of superstars:
1. Mike McCarthy (other than Favre)
2. Romeo Crennel
3. Jack Del Rio

Coaches that didn't have the best records but got more out their team than expected
1. Dick Jauron

Notables I left off...
1. Jeff Fisher
2. Mike Tomlin

Ok, so my picks are:
1. Belichick (only if they go undefeated)
2. Mike McCarthy
3. Romeo Crennel

I don't have as much contempt for Belichick simply because I am not convinced that he is the only one doing sketchy things to try and gain an edge in the league he just happened to get caught. He is like the politician who got caught in a lie or the NASCAR crew chief who got caught breaking a rule.

Even if the Pats do lose Belichick is still the guy simply because of the way they dismantled so many teams and just found different ways to beat teams. After that I'd probably go with Crennel or McCarthy. They both took teams that were crap a year ago and got them into the playoff picture.

I personally think the Coach of the Year award should go to Jack Del Rio.

The way he has handled his quarterback situation there in Jacksonville has been remarkable. Alot of people were riding this team off before the season started because they felt as if there was going to be trouble at the quarterback position this year.

People questioned the move to get rid of Byron Leftwich, but all that move has done is enable the rise to superiority of one, David Garrard.

His defense is playing extraordinary right now, and has been all year. Even with the injuries to some of their most important pieces. (Mike Peterson, Paul Spicer, Scott Starks.)

Justin Durant is playing exceptionally well in place of Peterson and this entire team has just been on a roll all year...

VIVA DEL RIO!

I don't hold SpyGate against New England or Bill Belichick because I don't think the team ever truly benefited from videotaping the opposing team (at least, as far as we know).

If New England does end up going 16-0, I don't see how anyone can go against Belichick for Coach of the Year.

Personally, I am a fan of Jack Del Rio and what he and the Jacksonville Jaguars have done this season. I think they have played just as well as anybody down the stretch and I think Del Rio has them primed to make some noise in the playoffs (which is why we should wait to decide all awards until the season is officially over).

Yeah... thats why I say if they wanna use Spygate as an excuse then seriously... I'm not sure I'd be pissed? There are just so many other great stories out there (Del Rio, Crennel, McCarthy) for COY...

Doublee wins this round on a technicality.

Bill Belichick deserves the honor if New England wins this weekend. Jack Del Rio has been my personal favorite to watch, though, and would garner my support if Belichick and the New England Patriots weren't shattering records at every turn.

Not a single mention of Jon Gruden anywhere on this thread?

I live in Tampa (but am not a Bucs fan) so I may be biased about Gruden. Having said that, it's not as though he took a team that was bad, through no fault of his own, and turned it around. The Bucs have been up and down since he arrived, and this has simply been one of the up years

Still, they were bad last year, and he has them in the playoffs this year, so I could certainly see the argument in his favor.

I meant to put him up on my "notables not mentioned"...
But yeah, Mont hit it perfect... up & down as usual.

Why would anyone mention him in a COY thread?

Gruden isn't even the COY on his own team. Monty Kiffin is.
