Default Super Bowl XLII Thread

It is Giants v. Pats with the Pats being an early 14 point favorite. While I think the Pats will win installing them as 2 TD favorites is pretty insane given the Giants are playing phenomenal defense and they just played the Pats to within a field goal less than a month ago.

I like the Pats to win but I cannot imagine that they cover the spread here.

I'm calling it New England 38 - Giants 17. I think with the warm weather we will see alot more of Moss and Welker and Stallworth. Plus, BB gets 2 weeks to prepare for a team they just faced a few weeks ago. I think they will go with the game plan they used (the 2nd half of) that game. They pressured Eli more and were able to get to him.

Lots of pressure on the Patriots to complete the Perfect Season.

Is Moss going to show up for this game or just go through the motions again? He has been pretty non-existant the last two weeks.

Yeah, Jax and SD pretty much took him out of it. But again, New England has shown that this does not work.... sure it'll keep the game close for 2-3 quarters but New England eventually pulls away.
I guess if NYG just wants to cover the spread they'll use that tactic

I have a feeling with the nice AZ weather we will see the New England of September and October...

The Giants are going to win this one.

Reasons:
-The Giants have played better than the Patriots have in the playoffs.
-The Giants offense has been hot and the Patriots offense won't be able to outscore them, especially with the Giants solid pass rush.
-The Giants should be healthier than they were in week 17.

The Giants will win.

I say the Pats win, a fairly close game but not as close as the regular season matchup. They are simply a better team, than anyone this year, and I don't see a letdown in the last game of the season.

The Giants offense has not been that hot it has just been more efficient and not turning the ball over as often as it did during the season. I'd hardly quantify an offense that has scored 24, 21, and 23 points in its 3 playoff games as on fire.

Brady seen in a walking cast?

Be a lot more interesting if Brady's mobility is in question against that NY rush...

You know, the skeptic in me wants to say this is all being staged. Would anyone be surprised, given Belichick's track record, if it came out that this was just gamesmanship by Belichick?

Giants will spoil everybody's party.

They wrecked Dallas's great # 1 seed season.
They wrecked Green Bay's charmed "Brett's last stand" season.
Now, they are going to wreck New England's perfect season
(and Shula's mouth will continue to shoot on...and on...and on...)

Remember the '85 KC Royals? Barely over .500, they win the
weak AL West, get hot, and win the World Series, but barely the
10th best team in MLB.

Remember 19-10 Villanova upsetting their way to the NCAA Finals,
and then taking out Pat Ewing's # 1 Georgetown Hoyas? Unranked
team wins the tournament.

Same deal. The crappy NY Giants will win the Super Bowl and then claim
they are the best team in Pro Football. You watch and see.

If Brady is hurt, everything changes, but at this point I'm assuming he'll play and be fine.

NY had their chance at wrecking NE's perfect season and they failed already. I can't see the Patriots faultering at this point. I expect a good game out of NY... I don't see NE winning by 13 points... look at every Superbowl they've won... came down to a FG... even Philly got a worthless TD at the end to close the lead. No way NE wins by more than 7... but they will win.

This will be fifth "border war" Super Bowl, in that it matches two teams in neighboring fan markets; the other four were Dallas-Denver in Super Bowl XII (where Colorado meets New Mexico and Oklahoma), Giants-Buffalo in Super Bowl XXV (the line here running slightly south of Albany and Binghamton), St. Louis-Tennessee in Super Bowl XXXIV, and Indianapolis-Chicago last year.

And did you see that the Patriots are getting only 64% of the "vote" on ESPN?
