Can Sunday and Monday Night Games be blacked-out?

Most my posts are just for discussion but this one I always wondered about.

Here in J-Ville we are lucky to get 1 or 2 games broadcasted when the Jaguars play at home during the year.

Next year they will be covering 10,000 + seats so the games will not be blacked out.

Sunday and Monday Night games are always sold out around the league that I have seen but what happens in a case were it fails to sell enough tickets and in normal cases would not be aired around the area? Ok, this will never happen I know but do Sunday and Monday Night games fall under the same rules or is it waved?

If I had to say, games would be blacked out but on the other hand Sunday & Monday Night Football is Prime Time TV and are or seem like regular shows where during the day on Sunday you can have CBS show the NFL at 1:00 or at 4:15 PM and it seems to change week to week.

On that note, why does Fox have a double header and CBS does not? CBS seems to either show a 1:00 pm game or a 4:15 game but I hardly see a double header if at all by CBS and they pay almost as much as FOX.

I don't think so because they are on national TV. CBS and FOX alternate double header weekends. FOX had it this week so CBS will have the late game next week. The only time I have ever seen a game get blacked out on ESPN is in college whenever a local channel picks up a game. I cannot ever remember an ESPN/ABC NFL game ever being blacked out.

The answer is Yes to both; last year, when it looked like the Green Bay at Oakland Monday night game might not have sold out, the local ABC affiliate in the Bay Area announced that the Robert DeNiro movie Sleepers would be shown instead if it didn't (at least I think that's which movie they were going to show). If the game could not have been blacked out the station would hardly have made such an announcement.

As for ESPN, local commercials air during the game; for example, a dentist's office in San Francisco runs ads, and I would tend to doubt that if someone needed a root canal in, say, Fargo, North Dakota, they would fly out to San Francisco to have it taken care of - therefore the technology obviously exists to black out programming to a specific market.

Wow, you mean they don't just put ESPN News on like they do here when they black out programming? I guess we would never see blackouts here as the Panthers rarely get to host MNF or the ESPN game.
