Default NBA Thought of the Day: March-April

After a nasty slide with Rip Hamilton the bench, the Pistons have inserted Rip back into the lineup and benched Iverson. Suddenly, the Pistons win again. Smart move because the Pistons are not designed around a guy like Iverson who doesn't make others around him better. He can be used as a spark off the bench, IMO. And Michael Curry was a bad tire I feel, his job security has to be hanging by a thread...

I don't know how much you can blame this on Curry. Was it his idea to trade Billups for AI? The Pistons are where they are because Dumars thought it a better idea to deal Billups for Iverson so they would have enough cash to go after one of the big dogs in free agency next summer. I hated the AI deal when they did it. At the time I said the Pistons were not the type of team where AI would make them better and Billups is better suited for their style of play.

Wade and LeBron went head-to-head this week, each scoring 40+ in an amazing game. I think both clearly saw this as a challenge and wanted to make a statement about being the best in the game. This was only the second time two players have scored 40 in a game all year, I believe.

Speaking of Wade, the NBA made him remove those band-aid tattoo things on his face. Good, those looked silly and were annoying...

Apparently, Carmello Anthony refused to exit a game and is suspended for "insubordination": http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3949561

Odd as George Karl is a well-known players' coach to have this happening with a superstar.

Disagreed.
I think the NBA goes too far with it's attire rules, under which I'm assuming the 'band-aid' rule falls? He's covering up stitches with a little style, and they penalize him... boooooo David Stern.

Also boooooo on the no warming up with iPods. That falls under my equally-retarded and unnecessary rules category.

Do you also disagree with the dress codes for players pre/post-game? I like it because they are professionals and going to work, and should act like it. Though I can see your point about the other stuff.

No I see your point on that part of it; I do like them to look professional pre/post game. It's just the other little ticky-tack stuff that gets under my skin a bit.

Celtics have lost four of five without K.G. Probably nothing to worry about assuming he comes back, but they are not going to have an easy run in the playoffs. Lots of age on that roster, and some holes on the bench. Lakers will win the title...

Now Ray Allen is out as well. The biggest stumbling block for Boston, if they get that far, is the fact that Cleveland has been virtually unbeatable at home this year and, barring a collapse, they all but have the #1 seed wrapped up in the East.

Yes, and Orlando is on Boston's toes for the No. 2 seed in the East. Most shocking for me is Cleveland is going to have the best overall record. I did not expect them to be so dominant. It would be just what the league wants: LeBron vs. the Kobe and the Lakers in the Finals. Yummm.

What is probably more surprising is the fact that Cleveland is 23-4 against the West this year.

Garnett is out a few more games with his knee. That leaves him only a few games to get back into the swing of things before the postseason. I'm growing increasingly skeptical of the Celtics as they've settled into the third spot in the East. I really think they've been surpassed by the Cavs and Magic and I don't know if they can suddenly become dominant again. They're old and battling injuries, and simply can't be as hungry as last year.

I am beginning to think that Garnett's knee is never going to get to 100% until he can take a couple of months off for it to heal completely.

It did not take AI long to complain about coming off the bench. Dumars better hope he lands one of the big dogs in the summer of '10 or else this deal was a huge waste of time and money.

Rather retire than ride the bench? Way to be a team player, Allen.
