Default Dirk Nowitzki Named MVP

Dirk Nowitzki has been chosen as the NBA's MVP, according to the Associated Press.

I would say it's a solid selection, as Dirk averaged 25 points and 9 rebounds per game, while leading Dallas to an NBA-best 67 wins, but it seems a little odd considering the Mavericks were ousted from the first-round of the playoffs. Nowitzki is the first NBA MVP in 25-years not to win a single playoff series.

Dirk did set career-highs in field-goal percentage (50.2%), three-point percentage (41.6%) and free-throw percentage (90.4%) this season; no other player in the league topped 50, 40 and 90 percent.

Sure he sucked in the playoffs, but if that mean't anything in the MVP race, they would choose one after the finals.

My biased vote was for MV3 Steve who had a better year statistically than last year and mean't more to his team.

After watching him in the playoffs its hard to swallow him being MVP, but he did have a great regular season.

Why isn't the MVP award announced either before the start of the playoffs, or after the playoffs? Seems odd to release it mid-playoffs. If you go on season alone, he deserves it based on the Mavs' astounding season, but it's just hard to be unbiased considering how he choked.
