Default Yanks Forfeit Request ..... No Class

I can't believe that the Yankees actually did this!!!! They asked the Commish's office to grant them a foreit win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays because they did not arrive in time for the start of the doubleheader today.

Congrats to Selig who stated .... "Given the stage of the season we are in, and the exciting pennant races, it is critical that we do everything to decide the championship on the field."

I mean, are the Yanks that afraid of Boston that they want a default win over the Devil Rays .... a team they have owned?

For a historic and storried franchise like the Yankees to pull a stunt like this .... wow.

No Class

The Yankees need every win they can get now, with the Red Sox breathing down their necks. The Yankees have some issues to deal with and they don't need another double header.
I wouldn't call this a classless act, just one of "desperation", something unfamiliar to Yankee fans recently.
This is one of the reasons we have a Commissioner's Office and they will sort this situation out, hopefully.

Catman, I hear what you're saying but for me, however naive this might sound ..... sports are to be played in an arena, not in an office, that's what upsets me.

Imagine if the Yanks won the division by half a game. That would really weigh upon the minds of sports fans everywhere and add another black eye to a sport that's appears to have gotten back on its feet.

I think a class act would recognise this and would be EAGER to win a game by being better than their opponents rather than whinning about it in the attempt to get a FREE, EMPTY victory ...... no matter how desperate they may be.

Maybe it's just the shock that the Yanks, a historic and influencial sports franchise would do this. I dunno, I guess I remember better days.

I am with Habs this is pretty classless given the situations around them choosing to stay in Tampa. They stayed behind because they wanted to be with their wives and kids when the storm blew threw Tampa. Not like they stayed behind because they were afraid to play the Yankees or something. They should be willing to cut the Rays a little slack here. The furthest thing from the D-Rays' minds was how can we get out of here early. They were more worried about what else needed to be done to ensure the safety of my family. At least Selig seems to realize that. It is good to see him squelch this.

All I know is that I am sick of the yankees. All eyes are on them no matter what and I think it is completely bad for baseball. These guys aren't even that good this year and they still get all the attention from everyone everyday and the attention is not given to teams that are more deserving of it. I think the yanks are one of the worst things that could happen for baseball.

Well, the Yanks are getting a ton of attention right now because for one they still have the best record in the league and the second best in baseball. For another they are portentially in the midst of one of the biggest collapses in baseball history. Not many teams can claim to have blown a ten game lead as late as August 1.

Me too Kornbix ..... not that I love the BoSox any more than the Yanks but this is what baseball needs ..... a little parrity.

That's what I love about football ..... any year a different team can win it all.
