Default SI Pre-Season Top 20

Got my SI college football preview in the mail yesterday. After tearing off the cover on the front advertising some insider's type thing, it revealed a cover featuring a handful of Ohio State players. I almost threw up on it until I realized it could've been worse- I could've gotten the Notre Dame cover.

1. Ohio State
2. Notre Dame
3. Texas
4. LSU
5. Southern Cal
6. West Virginia
7. Auburn
8. Cal
9. Florida
10. Michigan
11. Georgia
12. Florida State
13. Louisville
14. Oklahoma
15. Clemson
16. Arizona State
17. Miami
18. Nebraska
19. Penn State
20. Oregon

Yeah, evidently you get the regional issue, so after I ripped off my advertisment cover (I HATE those, BTW!:redhot: ) I got the cover with LSU players on it....... I thought the writers at SI had been smokin' something and assumed they picked LSU as #1!!! But then I saw in small lettering that they picked OSU as #1. Now I REALLY think they are certifiable.......

If it's regional, I'm curious how I didn't get the West Virginia or ND cover. One, CT is closer to WV than Ohio, two WVU is in the Big East and this is technically Big East territory and three there are probably more ND fans in these parts than Ohio State fans.

Right now I'm trying to figure out Arizona State at #16. Sure they have two top quarterbacks in Keller and Carpenter but the defense is shakey and Derek Hagan is gone. I'd say 17, 18, 19 and maybe even #20 would beat ASU.

Unfortunately, ASU will be hard to judge based on their competition. They only play 2 top teams and sadly they are away games at Cal and USC. The rest of their schedule itsn't that tough excluding the pac 10 are all fairly good in general. I think a record of 3 losses this year will keep them ranked, but not sure anyone will be able to determine how good they really are unless they play neck and neck the whole game with Cal & USC or until they face a good bowl game opponent.

Overall though, I like this poll better than any other I have seen this year.

I still hate preseason polls. Let em play 4 weeks, then give us polls.

I agree that OSU has holes, buckeye. But I really don't see a consensus number one anywhere. We were just unlucky enough to get the honor.

Been wondering where that was at.

Thinking back, I almost made a bet w/you before the Sugar Bowl. Whomever's respected team won, the other had to fly the others flag as an avatar. Whew, talk about dodging a bullet.

Mike--I don't know if I'd have taken that bet till the end of the first quarter...
I was hopeful, but not delusional.
At least, I don't recall being delusional.

Oh, your PM box is full, so I couldn't reply to yours the other day.

I still can't believe the D let em get off that fake punt. I was screaming at the television. *sigh* I am still in pain over that loss.

This is easily the worst Ohio State team on paper (nevermind philosophy) since 2001...Tressel's first year.

True. Not sure if the Plain Dealer or Beacon-Journal picked it up Ricky, but there was an article in The Vindicator today about how Pittman rushed for more yards than any other sophmore in OSU history last year besides Archie...of course. Plus we got the Wells' boys too. This is easily our best RB unit since Eddie back in the mid-90s.

And what do you do with that talent? Pass? Gimme a break.

Philosophy, not even a young D, is gonna be our downfall IF Jimmy T. doesn't get his head straight. This "feeling your way thru the early season" has got to stop. It has cost us the last 2 seasons. Run and play defense....PERIOD.
