Default A-Rod Needs Surgery

It is being reported that Alex Rodriguez needs surgery to remove a cyst and could miss up to 10 weeks.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3954457

Have we seen the last of A-Rod being one of the game's dominant players? What if this becomes degenerative and is out of the game within a couple of years? The Yankees are on the hook with him for the next 9 years.

Everyone goes through minor medical problems during their lives. Hopefully for the Yankees' sake this is just one of those things.
Now comes a very big question for the Bombers -- Who plays 3B during ARod's absence?

According to reports today, he has a torn labrum in his hip. Surgery would keep him out for 4-5 months and he may not be able to play through the pain. Lets see what happens.

Someone on ESPN said the injury Utley got last season was the same one A-Rod has and he played through it most of last season. And, A-Rod said he played with this last season, didn't he?

This is not good for A-Rod or the Yankees.

I think he played with the cyst last season but now it turns out he has a torn labrum in his hip as well and that is the injury Utley and Mike Lowell are both currently recovering from.

The cyst probably was not a huge deal in and of itself but throw the torn labrum in there and now it gets pretty dicey as to when he will be back.

You have to wonder if maybe he's a little relieved he conveniently has an injury that'll put him out so he can let the steroids story cool off...

He has had his surgery and is hoping to be back in May. They are talking about 6-9 weeks and I would think that 9 weeks would be a conservative estimate. He should be back by Memorial Day.

He may need a new tax accountant while he is laid up. HI Catman.

He is in such top physical shape that I would be surprised if he had any more serious health problems for the rest of his career. But if he keeps missing time like this he is in serious jeopardy of not becoming the HR king...
