Default Thank you USA

I would like to thank team USA soccer for affirmining why I do not like to watch soccer. I know that everyone can't root for a team as good as the Yankees or Patriots all the time, but crap, team USA was pathetic today. They looked horrible and their effort (or a lack there of) was exactly why soccer will never be a popular sport in the states.

Yes, i'm sure this is going to get a lot of "you don't understand soccer" or "you suck" responses, but oh well. I'm sure it would be different if I lived in Brazil. But the fact of the matter is that I don't, and the product that I was offered today was crap.

Yes...all I can say is if you want to get behind USA soccer and gave this game a shot...give the game with Italy a chance. I've thought for a while now that they'd fare better with the Italians than Czech Republic.

How about, "Those are some seriously fairweather reasons to like or not like a sport."

Maybe a case of false advertising with the 5th ranking in FIFA's list. The casual fan gets fed the story and then wonders why his team just got thrashed by a group of players who's names he cannot pronounce.

Hey, it's sort of like selling Clippers' basketball or Marlins' baseball.... it's easier to sell the world class talent than your own chances of actually winning... forget about USA soccer, just enjoy the better teams

As a soccer novice American hoping to get into the World Cup momentum, I was hoping the USA would have a good showing so I could get on the bandwagon and really pull for a team. Oh well, there's always the chance they pull a miracle against Italy.

Dear U.S.A Men's National Soccer Team=>

Good luck tomorrow against the Italians. You have every American at home, and abroad, pulling for you and wishing you your best win. Not only do you have to win, you have to win convincingly. In terms of goal spread, at least three goals is desired. Simply a tie is fatal. A loss is unacceptable. You need to win.

A word about heart; you need to have it. If any of you can walk after the game you didn't do your part. You need to run, run, run in this game. It needs to be all offense and total defense. Anything less than your best performance of your life is totally unsatisfactory. Come home with your shields or on them... leave everything on the field of battle. Every touch needs to be your best touch, every kick your best kick, every goal your best goal-scoring opportunity. Every breath you have needs to be expended to do only one thing: win.

This will be a final game in many respects; win it convincingly and you'll progress against Ghana and perhaps further. However, lose it and you'll remember it always as the game where you failed to step up to the plate. It will be the final game. Your lives as soccer players is at stake: You have the skill to beat the Italians in both offense and defense. Listen not to what others tell you but listen instead to your heart. Feel it and act with it. Win.

God's blessing upon you as you represent this nation on the pitch of battle against the Italians. It is the game of your lives. Win.

I too would like to see the United States go out and compete, and hopefully bring home a win. But isn't this a tad extreme?

I don't mind people that get amped up for the World Cup or the Olympics, but I think it gives us such a false sense of pride to tell these players that "every breath you have needs to be expended to do only one thing: win."

Really?

I want them to give it there all, certainly. But life will go on for me and these soccer players regardless of whether or not they beat the Italians in a soccer game.

And most of us will forget about the game within a couple of weeks, regardless of who wins or loses.

As my first official post it's finally time to say what the Italy draw was impressive. Italy was pretty physical that game. If Italy can beat Czech and US beats Ghana then US can qualify, is that correct?

Yes, that's correct. US need to win and they need Italy to beat the Czechs. Both have to happen.

I wonder if lersfan is back on the bandwagon. Probably not. I mean, we didn't win by 4 goals or anything.

To be honest the USA team got screwed by some bad calls against the Italians.

There's an old maxim in politics: Those who don't care don't vote.

Well that can easily be adapted to the situation with the U.S. soccer team: You can't expect a country that doesn't care about a particular sport to excel at that sport.
