Default PREVIEW: Central Division

This is part 5 of 7 of this season preview series of threads, this one focusing on the Western Conference's Central Division.

Here is how I think these teams will finish:

1. Detroit
2. St. Louis
3. Nashville
4. Chicago
5. Columbus

I think it will be a very tight race between Detroit and St. Louis, but we don't know for sure how Johnson will do in his first year as a starting goaltender in St. Louis, or if perhaps he and Fred Brathwaite will share the #1 job.

Detroit has so many weapons, it's hard to see a whole in their team, except for the average age is probably 30 -- how will that affect them in the long run?

Nashville is a playoff contender this year. They have a well-balanced scoring unit and their coach started coaching in a town 30 minutes away from me in good ol' Manitoba, so how can you go wrong with that!?

I voted for the Blues as #1. My picks:

1. St. Louis
2. Detroit
3. Nashville
4. Chicago
5. Columbus

Since when does Chicago have a hockey team? I am pulling for my Blue Jackets in my former home of Columbus, but I guess being last place for five or so years is what you can expect to get as an expansion franchise. I also think Nashville could challenge for second place.

You think Nashville will challenge for second with Detroit!?

Okay.... let me get this straight.... you're telling me that the likes of Mike Dunham, Andy Delmore, Cliff Ronning, Kimmo Timonen, Barry Trotz, Tom Fitzgerald, and Scott Walker are going to challenge, for SECOND place, the likes of Dominik Hasek, Sergei Fedorov, Steve Yzerman, Chis Chelios, Nicklas Lidstrom, Scotty Bowman, Luc Robitalle, Brendan Shanahan, Brett Hull, Steve Duschene...... and the list goes on and on and on.... Is that what you are seriously telling me!?

In the words of Maculy Culkin (sp?), "I don't think so."
