Default Double standard?

I hope I don't turn off any of the females here but I have a real problem with the coverage of Diana Taurasi's DUI. She was way over the legal limit and got caught and yet it was reported in like the last two minutes of Sports Center and then buried. If this was a male athlete it gets alot more coverage. Why is that? Am I off base or do you guys feel the same way?

Ultimately it is because nobody really pays attention to the WNBA. I don't think it has so much to do with it inherently being a male athlete versus female athlete but where Diana Taurasi ranks in terms of being a high profile athlete. If it were say Lisa Leslie or Candace Parker it probably would have been a lead story on SportsCenter.

Jim Leyritz is in a world of trouble and we have barely heard much about it because he no longer plays and was not a very high profile player when he did.

Maybe my view is off on this because I am in the Newyork area. But Mike Francesa killed Leryitz for like a week straight.

It has nothing to do with gender bias. It's because the WNBA is irrelevant and no one cares. If one of the Williams sisters got it, it'd be a major story.

That may be but it has been a blip on the screen nationally. I am sure this is probably getting a lot more coverage in whatever city it is Taurasi plays in.

Yea I think my proximity to the Leryitz thing definatly plays a part. Taurasi plays in pheonix for the Mercury FYI.

Good to see you, albeit just to reiterate what was already said. :thumbsup2:

Honestly, the only women's sport I really care for is tennis. And I'm sure it has to do with hot young girls in mini-skirts grunting ... but I swear I'm not exist. I love women!
