Default Top Heisman candidates for 2007...yeah...next year...

Interesting read.

The top ten in this piece are...

10. Erick Ainge, Tennessee
9. Ray Rice, Rutgers
8. Colt McCoy, Texas
7. John David Booty, Southern Cal
6. P.J. Hill, Wisconsin
5. Pat White, West Virginia
4. Darren McFadden, Arkansas
3. Mike Hart, Michigan
2. Steve Slaton, West Virginia
1. Colt Brennan, Hawaii

http://cfn.scout.com/2/598419.html

This writer must be banking on a huge year for Brennan (even bigger than this year...say 60 TD passes) cuz the award goes to kids who play in BCS bowls every year with the exception of Ricky Williams back in 98.

Not sure why Antonio Pittman of Ohio State didn't make the cut. Troy Smith will be gone and Pittman has put together the best two-year span at the RB position in school history aside from Archie Griffin. I guess he may think they'll do a dual threat combo of Pittman and Chris Wells next year.

Interesting that McFadden is rated 4th when he will be the top returning vote getter from this season.

I am surprised the kid from Boise, Ian Johnson, is not on here either. He did only lead the nation in scoring, despite missing a game, and ran for 1,600+ yards.

Prior to this season I thought I would see Derrick Williams on their for sure. Talk about crushed dreams. Now I'd just be happy if he could run as fast as he did in '05.

McFadden would be my favorite going into next season.

I'm going to say Ainge doesn't belong there. Swain and Smith are gone and Meachem might go pro early. If he loses his top three receivers, I don't see him factoring into the Heisman race.

You have to be from a BCS school (and as I've noted in here before...play in a BCS game too cuz only Williams won it and didn't play in one for Texas back in 1998) to get the award...at least going by history.

That's why Brennan would have to put up 60 touchdowns next year to even have a shot IMO.

McFadden has to be the #1 contender for next years race. I agree with Slaton and Hart being 2 and 3 respectively. I was kind of thinking UF's Percy Harvin would be in there somewhere. Not just because I'm a Gator fan but he will be a very exciting player (reminds me alot of Deion Sanders and Reggie Bush) for the next couple of years.

But, doesn't Percy Harvin need to show he can go more than two or three games without getting hurt first? To be honest I would have expected to see Tebow's name up there before Harvin's.
