Default Let's talk music

So what kind of music does everyone like? Who are the best groups/artists ever? What are you currently listening to? Latest album you bought?

I like all music of course, preference = rock.

The Beatles are the best group ever, followed by Floyd and the Who.

Ween is the best band of the last 10 years or so (check 'em out if you don't know)

The latest album I bought was a group called Kings of Leon. They are similar to the Black Crows and kind of like Modest Mouse.

Your turn.

Speaking of hip-hop.

Mos Def, Immortal Technique, and MF Doom are a few you should check out.

Song of the year = "crazy" Gnarles Barkley. Mark my words now, that song will go down as a classic, and kids 30 years from now will still be listening to that song. I promise.

I listen to nearly every genre of music (it comes from years of working at several different radio stations that played a variety of music), but my mother raised my primarily on Motown music.

To this day, I love to listen to the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Temptations, Tami Terrell, Mary Wells and Stevie Wonder.

But personally, my all-time favorite artist is Michael Jackson (laugh all you want).

My all-time favorite album is Michael Jackson's "Thriller," while my all-time favorite song is Jackson's "Man in the Mirror."

Like Ellis, I am a huge fan of the Steve Miller Band, plus I love to listen to Elton John (that one's for Sue), Sam Cooke, 2Pac and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Good picks tobynosker.

That's one of the greatest tragedies of the last 50 years of music: Michael Jackson. After all this child molestation stuff, people are beginning to forget and overlook his contributions to music. Thiller is one of the greatest albums of the last 30 years and he changed pop music forever. I'm with ya my man, Michael (musically) was the man.

Not only musically, but Michael Jackson should rank as one of the greatest (if not the greatest) performers and all-around entertainers in history.

He was able to do things on stage that people like James Brown and Sammy Davis Jr. could only dream of.

About the only genre I don't like is country...except for Cash, and he's not really country. Love classic rock of all types (old Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd especially), and some of the newer stuff. Nirvana, Chili Peppers, Radiohead...

Favs are the Cure (duh), NIN, Bowie, D. Mode.
Softer side is Elton, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, George Michael (yeah, yeah, yeah...I don't care what he does/did)
Hiphop is 2Pac, Biggie, Snoop, Eric Sermon... no dirty south crap...Dizzee Rascal (out of the UK) is great.

Yeah, definately true toby.

Anyone want to object to my prediction that "Crazy" will go down as a classic, and still be playing on the radio 30 years from now?

CK, you should dig up and revive a thread called "What are you listening to?"

I am mostly into techno (specifically sub-genres often called downtempo and IDM). Basically, I like music where people look to make listenable, nice melodies without conforming themselves to specific instruments or genres.

My favorite artist of that type is Prefuse 73 (who MF Doom has worked with). I also like Pepe Deluxe, Bluetech, Fila Brazillia, Nightmares on Wax, and others.

I grew up on Classic Rock. I love Pink Floyd, ELO, and Talking Heads (not really classic rock) the most from that era. And Led Zeppelin.

Kevin,
The Talking Heads are great, but often overlooked in terms of good music. Mostly because they were big in the 80s.

It is sad. Thriller is a great album, a landmark of the '80's... it is a shame he's turned into an alien-pedophile-whatever.

I figured I would just let time do that for me...

EDIT: I am still hoping that people will realize that Alanis Morissette's song "Your House" is the greatest song to be recorded since 1995 (although, Matchbox 20's "Push" and Bruce Springsteen's "My City of Ruins" are close).

Really? Why do you say that? I mean it is obviously jsut a prediction that neither one of us can prove until time tells, but I just wanted to know why you feel that way.
