Default Bama's Top 10 Pro Football Rankings Week 9

1.Indianapolis Colts-(8-0)-The Colts beat a good New England Patriots football team, 27-20 in New England. The Colts defense intercepted QB Tom Brady four times on the night. Linebacker Cato June had two of those interceptions. Cato leads the NFL in tackles with 77. QB Peyton Manning completed 20 of 36 passes for 326 yards and two TD's. Manning leads the NFL with a quarterback rating of 106.0. He is third in the NFL in passing yards with 2,291. WR Marvin Harrison caught eight passes for 145 yards and two TD's. WR Reggie Wayne had six receptions for 90 yards. Wayne leads the team with 732 yards in receiving. Indianapolis' safety Bob Sanders led the defense with 11 tackles. Colts Field goal kicker Adam Vinatieri had two successful field goals against his former team, but missed two. Next game Nov. 12th against the Buffalo Bills in Indianapolis.

2.Chicago Bears-(7-1)-The Bears were shocked by the Miami Dolphins, 31-13 in Chicago. Well, its a proven fact that any NFL team on any given Sunday can be beat. I feel the Chicago Bears are still one of the best teams in the NFL for sure. QB Rex Grossman had a rough day. He completed only 18 of 42 passes for 210 yards and one TD, but threw three interceptions. The team also lost two fumbles. RB Thomas Jones rushed for 69 yards on 20 carries. WR Mushin Muhammad caught two passes for 42 yards and one TD. Chicago's great linebacker Brian Urlacher led the defense with 12 tackles, 10 of those were solo tackles. Next game Nov. 12th against the New York Giants in New York.

3.Baltimore Ravens-(6-2)-The Ravens beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-20 in Baltimore. Field goal kicker Matt Stover kicked four successful field goals for the Ravens. QB Steve McNair looked sharp as usual. McNair completed 21 of 31 passes for 245 yards, but no TD's. Tight end Todd Heap caught four passes for 84 yards. RB Jamal Lewis rushed for 72 yards on 24 carries and one TD. On Cincinnati's third offensive play of the game, CB Samari Rolle intercepted Carson Palmer's overthrown pass at the Cincinnati 49 and ran 24 yards. As he was being tackled, he gave the ball to Ed Reed, who took it into the end zone. Linebacker Ray Lewis led the defense with eight tackles. Baltimore ranks third overall in the NFL in defense, allowing 273.8 yards per game. Next game Nov. 12th against the Tennessee Titans in Tennessee.

4.Denver Broncos-(6-2)-The Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-20 in Pittsburgh. I have a funny feeling the Steelers will not repeat this season. QB Jake Plummer completed 16 of 27 passes for 227 yards and three TD's. The bad news is the Broncos defense allowed Pittsburgh 499 yards on the day. WR Javon Walker scored on a 72 yard run in the third quarter and caught six passes for 134 yards and two TD's. WR Rod Smith had four catches for 46 yards and one TD. Defensive back Champ Bailey had two interceptions on the day and safety Curome Cox had one. Denver linebacker Al Wilson led the defense with nine tackles. Next game Nov. 12th against the Oakland Raiders in Oakland.

5.New England Patriots-(6-2)-The Patriots lost to the Indianapolis Colts, 27-20 at home in New England. QB Tom Brady threw four interceptions on the day. Not usual for him. RB Corey Dillon rushed for 48 yards on 13 carries and scored two TD's. Rookie RB Lawrence Maroney out of Minnesota rushed for 63 yards on 13 carries. LB Junior Seau had 11 tackles and one sack for the Patriots defense. And he was ready to retire before joining the Pat's. This guy is a professional by all means. Next game Nov. 12th against the New York Jets in New England.

6.San Diego Chargers-(6-2)-The Chargers beat the Cleveland Browns, 32-25 in San Diego. RB LaDainian Tomlinson had another great running game by rushing for 172 yards on 18 carries and scoring three rushing TD's. Tomlinson ranks second in the NFL with 828 rushing yards. QB Phillip Rivers completed 19 of 29 passes for 211 yards and no TD's. WR Eric Parker caught five passes for 65 yards. The Chargers defense recorded five sacks on the day. Defensive tackle Jacques Cesaire had two of those five sacks. San Diego's defense ranks second in the NFL, allowing 269.0 yards per game. Next game Nov. 12th against the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati.

7.New York Giants-(6-2)-The Giants defeated the Houston Texans, 14-10 at New York. This is the Giants fifth straight win. QB Eli Manning completed 17 of 28 passes for 179 yards and one TD. He did throw one interception. NFL's leading rusher Tiki Barber ran for 115 yards on 17 carries and scored one TD. Tight end Jeremy Shockey caught eight passes for 66 yards and one TD. Linebacker Carlos Emmons led the defense with eight solo tackles. Defensive tackle Michael Strahan was injured and may miss several games. Also, WR Amani Toomer is out for the season with a knee injury. Big losses for the Giants. Next game Nov. 12th against the Chicago Bears at New York.

8. New Orleans Saints-(6-2)-The Saints crushed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-14 in Tampa. Great road win for New Orleans after losing big to the Baltimore Ravens last week at home. QB Drew Brees had a great game. Brees completed 24 of 32 passes for 314 yards and three TD's. Brees ranks fourth in the NFL with 2,206 passing yards. Rookie WR Marques Colston caught 11 passes for 123 yards and one TD. What a receiver! He will win Rookie of the Year if he stays healthy. Great hands. Colston ranks fourth in the NFL with 700 receiving yards. WR Joe Horn did not play due to injury. WR Devry Henderson another young receiver out of LSU caught three passes for 111 yards and two TD's. The Saints defense had four sacks on the day. Defensive end Will Grant had two of those sacks. Next game Nov. 12th against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh.

9.Atlanta Falcons-(5-3)-The Falcons were upset by the Detroit Lions, 30-14 in Detroit. QB Michael Vick's passing game did not work very well Sunday. Vick completed 17 of 32 passes for 163 yards and one TD. He threw two interceptions. Vick did rush for 80 yards on 10 carries. The Falcons were only able to convert 3 of 11 third downs. RB Warrick Dunn rushed for 51 yards on 11 carries and scored one TD. Tight end Alge Crumpler caught four passes for 47 yards and one TD. The Falcons defense had three sacks on the day. Cornerback Jason Webster led the defense with 10 tackles. Next game nov. 12th against the Cleveland Browns at Atlanta.

10.Jacksonville Jaguars-(5-3)-The Jaguars beat the Tennessee Titans, 37-7 in Jacksonville. QB David Garrard completed 12 of 22 passes for 177 and three TD's. Garrard a five year NFL veteran played his college ball at East Carolina. RB Fred Taylor rushed for 79 yards on 13 carries. WR Ernest Wilford caught three passes for 44 yards and two TD's. Wilford is a third year veteran out of Virginia Tech. For the Jaguars defense cornerback Rashean Mathis had two interceptions on the day and cornerback Scott Starks returned an interception for a 55 yard TD in the third quarter. Field goal kicker Josh Scobee had three successful field goals on the day. His longest was a 47 yarder in the second quarter. Scobee is tied for sixth in the NFL in kicking with 61 points. Next game Nov. 12th against the Houston Texans in Jacksonville.

10.Kansas City Chiefs-(5-3)-The Chiefs won their third game in a row by beating the St. Louis Rams, 31-17 in St. Louis. QB Damon Huard completed 10 of 15 passes for 148 yards and three TD's. Huard ranks second in the NFL with a 105.2 quarterback rating. He is a 10 year veteran out of Washington. RB Larry Johnson rushed for 172 yards on 27 carries and scored one TD. Great physical back. Tight end Tony Gonzalez caught five passes for 63 yards and two TD's. The Chiefs recovered two fumbles in the game. On defense, defensive end Jared Allen recorded two sacks. Next game Nov. 12th against the Miami Dolphins in Miami.

With Toomer out for the season, and Strahan out for a while, will the Giants remain in the top 10?
Also, which QB do the Chiefs start now? Green is back, ready to go (from what I understand), but Huard is doing very well for himself.
