Oh Lord just what we need a LSU fan.

Just kidding, bayoukid. Welcome to the boards. At least you're not a Big 10 fan. :thumbsup2:

Just wanted to bring this thread back up, because honestly, in the SEC right now, you have Florida and LSU, then there's everybody else. Sorry UK and Bama fans, win 2 or 3 (or at least 1 in convincing fashion) and I'll throw your names in there.

Auburn is a mess. Tubberville is fired at the end of the season, if he makes it that long. Tennesse is a shadow of what they were last year. The only competition SC and UGA have faced so far has been each other, and neither one looked too good in that game.

The SEC as a conference right now may rank 3rd, if not lower.

You don't consider Kentucky beating Louisville to be a good enough win to include them?

I would have put Bama in there too if they could have kept from giving up that 31-10 lead they had to eke it out against Arkansas.

Damn are McFadden and Jones a downright nasty combo though...

Bama, I dunno. Arkansas is overrated. No QB play at all. If they had someone who was halfway decent, they could win the conference. That is, if they had some sort of defense.

When UK puts together more solid wins, then I'll include them. As Wesley Snipes once said (and Marc is gonna hate me for this one) Even the sun shines on a dog's ass every now and then.

If Louisville kicks the FG on the earlier possession, they win the game. Bama goes up by 21, then struggles to win, aided by a porous Arkansas defense. The conference is just too average right now.

I don't think Arkansas was/is overrated, despite the loss to Alabama and the lack of quarterback play. They were ranked what? 15 and will be something like 20 after this week? That sounds about right for them, for this point of the season and how it has gone.

If the SEC is third in terms of Conferences, which two are ahead of them?

As for the Bama win, people can rip Saban all he wants, but he won them that game. He got an overmatched team fired up for that game and they stormed out to a big lead. Then when the wheels came off he regrouped and the decision that won them that game...kicking the FG with 4 and a half minutes to go down 7. The announcer commented that they might not get back down the field again. Saban's decision was the right one, but the announcer may have been right as well. It's just that Saban's decision helped give that team the confidence to win that game.

I had Bama going 11-1 this year so the game yesterday doesn't shock me.

As far as conferences go...

1. Pac Ten (UCLA and Washington losing lowered their lead though)
2. SEC
3. Big East
4. Big Twelve
5. Big Ten
6. ACC

Mike...

I see what you're saying on the conference strength but to me...it's backward logic...or SEC logic...LOL.

It's weird. For years (well, since the inception of time...LOL) it was the Big Ten who played the tough non-conf. schedules and then played tough inside the conference. We got dumped on for that while the SEC played the Monroes and Lafayettes of the world. This year the SEC has played a tougher non-conference schedule (note: still not enough games outside of region though) as a whole and now you are beating each other up.

This is what I've been saying for years: you have to use the early non-conference games as a huge part of your overall strength until you get to your bowl games. That's why for years we (Yankees) had no clue on the strength of the SEC until the bowls. And then when you guys went .500 or slightly above...we just shrugged our shoulders. I surmise that will be the case for the Big Ten this year. Our biggest non-conference win this season is gonna be Ohio State over Washington. We'll need a huge bowl season to make up the ground...no matter what happens the rest of the way in conference play.

Mark this post too. It's somewhat pro-SEC (but really me just bein' consistent with standards)...so take it and run...LOL.

With the way things are shaping up, EVERY conference is having some of their marquee teams go down. Some of these teams were projected to win conferences, others just aren't helping the supreme conference argument. Right now, it all seems about even and up for grabs to me. We have to see more games before we annoint a "best conference".

Consider:
SEC is hurt by Tennessee and Auburn losses.
PAC10 is hurt by UCLA blowout, Washington losing
BIG10 is hurt by michigan losses, wisconsin looking sketchy
BIG12 by nebraska blowout, texas winning close ones
BIGEAST by louisville, what will rutgers do/be

Everyone has a team or two who is struggling despite big expectations.

What irks me is people (including you, I believe) were saying how great Louisville was because of Brian Brohm. Then they lose and suddenly they were never any good. Kentucky beating a top-10 team for the first time since 1977 is a big accomplishment. Perhaps you'll be more convinced when they play Arkansas next week on ESPN2.

Here are my SEC rankings that Marc should like (plus it will cause some folks to hit the roof)...

1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. South Carolina
4. Kentucky
5. Florida
6. Arkansas
7. Georgia
8. Vandy
9. Tennessee
10. Miss. State
11.. Ole Miss.
12. Auburn

Stick to the Big Ten huh?

I never said that Marc. Especially after that MTSU debacle. And remember in my SEC East preview, I said I thought UK had a real chance to win the conference. They have me shaking in my boots about them coming to Athens. They win a few more games, and I'll definately change my tune. Notice, I said put together a few MORE solid wins. I just want to see it done consistantly They go to Arkansas this weekend and a road trip to SC 2 weeks later, and I think they pull both out. UF comes to town the 2nd week of October, and I think they may have a chance win that one as well. They just need to get some semblance of a defense going.

For the record, I have them ranked higher than UGA at the moment, unlike the AP.

Arkansas was way overrated to begin with. People are harping about how the Bama defense did such a good job shutting down McFadden, but who else did they have to defend? Dick is the worst QB in the SEC, by a mile.

Mine go like this:

1. LSU
2. Florida
3. UK (see Marc, I don't hate em )
4. South Carolina
5. Bama
6. UGA
7. Arkansas
8. Vandy
10. Miss State
11. Tennessee
12. Ole Miss

You forgot Auburn Mike.

Yeah, I'm high on South Carolina right now...for what I know of such matters.

I think if they give LSU a good game this Saturday I may leave 'em right where I got 'em or even move 'em up.

Well...only if the game is at LSU.

Losing at home: :tsk:
