Default MLB Thought of the Day - June

Chi-Sox hang tough but lose in 10 to the Rays 4-3. The pitching is surprisingly strong this year. It's the bats that are what's going to fail this team. They just don't know how to hit in situations...

& now you can see why I thought cutting Mark Prior loose was a good idea:

Padres' Mark Prior to have shoulder surgery

Cubs finish Rockies 5-3 for the first undefeated home stand of 7 or more in 16 years. Looks like they've finally gotten the idea of home field advantage...

The Twins got a "lucky" break today, or should say lack of break. Nick Blackburn was struck first in the glove, then in the face by a liner off the bat of Bobby Abreu. Here is a story on it: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8...eu's-liner

So, this Jay Bruce kid is pretty good...

The 21 year old has put up some impressive numbers in his first 6 games...

13 hits in 22 ABs, 3 doubles, 2 HRs, 10 Runs, 6 RBI, 6 BB, 2 SB, and only 1 K.

Yeah, the number one prospect in baseball for a reason I guess...

No longer a prospect, Fresh. I'm willing to say he's pretty impressive. Tom Kelly once said that you need 3 years or 1500 ABs to really know what you have in a player. Lets see how he progresses.

I'm not ready to crown him (sorry Denny Green) but I am certainly excited that he is a Red.

His approach to hitting is terrific. He can go the other way and slap the ball, he can pull it down the line for a double, and he has the power to hit 'em out of any part of the park. His defense looks okay right now, but that should improve with age.

Volquez
Bruce
Votto
Cueto
Phillips

and

Homer Bailey will make his season debut against the Phillies on Thursday...

It's an exciting time for Reds fans

I agree with that. The Reds look like a team that will be very good for a while.

Yesterday's W against the Padres was Zambrano's 8th & he brought his bat to work again going 3 for 3.

Marmol's getting way too much work this early in the year. I'm worried...

Chi-Sox take Royals 9-5 to ease Ozzie's pain.

Marmol needs to get a day or 2 off now and then. Maybe if the Cubs' starters would pitch 8 innings a game?
Seriously, he needs to get some days off, as does Ozzie.

Wood, Weurtz, and Howry are not that far behind Marmol in terms of appearances and innings either. To date the Cubs have the 5ht most bullpen innings behind Texas, San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Florida. The Cubs may need to find someone other than Dempster and Zambrano who can eat some innings for them if they want to survive the dog days of summer.

Redsox take game 1 from the Rays and fall just a half game behind them for 1st place. (Mush, where you at?)

Fresh, Bruce looks like the real deal... I'm sorry bro but I'd say you can crown him!

You want to crown, then go ahead and crown him. HE IS WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS!

Yep...

It's been going on from the opener & doesn't show signs of slowing down. They did it again the last night by having to run thru basically all spare arms.

Marquis goes a little over 5 & gets the W. It's gonna cost them sooner than later.

A shame that some of those excess runs from other games couldn't have been saved for Lilly tonight. Goes into the 8th tied & ends up losing 2-1.

Chi-Sox at least get over in 15 against the Royals 6-4 on a 2 run Konerko HR.

1 out of 2 ain't bad I guess...
