Default Pro Basketball Rankings Week 12

Weekly rankings reflect all games played from Oct. 29th through January 20th, 2003. Only the top 16 teams are ranked each week for now.


1.-SACRAMENTO KINGS--(30-11)-.732-The Kings thrashed Dallas, 123-94 last Wednesday in Sacramento on Jan. 15th. Chris Webber had 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists, and Pete Stojakovic scored 23 as Sacramento sent a strong message that Dallas may not be the best team in the NBA right now. Sacramento has proved they are one of the best team's, by beating the LA Lakers on Christmas, then smashed the East champion New Jersey by 36 points last week. Next game Jan. 21th against New Jersey at Sacramento.


2.-DALLAS MAVERICKS--(31-8)-.795-The Mavericks lost all three game this past week. Defense has been a problem lately and poor shooting. Italian League star Antoine Rigaudeau is now a Dallas Maverick. Rigaudeau averaged 13.9 points this season for Virtus Bologna, making 43 percent of his 3-pointers. Next game Jan. 21th against Houston in Dallas.


3.-INDIANA PACERS--(29-12)-.707-The Pacers beat Miami, 104-81 in Indianapolis last Wednesday on Jan. 15th. Brad Miller scored 21 points and Ron Artest had 18 as Indiana won itss fifth straight game. Next game Jan. 22th against Toronto at Indiana.


4.-DETROIT PISTONS--(27-13)-.675-Detroit beat Indiana, 88-78 in Detroit On Monday night Jan. 20th. Ben Wallace scored a season high 14 points and had 15 rebounds in tonight's win. Two days earlier, Indiana beat the Piston's at home on Jermaine O'Neal's disputed shot in th final seconds. Detroit has won seven out of their last ten games. They trail Indiana by one one and 1/2 games in the Central Division in the East. Next game Jan. 22th against Philadelphia at Detroit.


5.-NEW JERSEY NETS--(28-12)-.700-The Nets defeated Toronto, 88-77 at New Jersey last Friday Jan. 17th. Jason Kidd scored 18 points and added five assists as the Nets beat the Toronto Raptors for the fifth straight time at home.


6.-SAN ANTONIO SPURS--(26-14)-.650-The Spurs beat Houston, 87-82 in San Antonio on Monday night Jan. 20th. Tim Duncan just overpowered the Rockets and scored 32 points. Tied at 82 all with 59 seconds left in regulation, Duncan converted a three-point play to lift the Spurs to victory. San Antonio has won 10 straight home games against Houston. Next game Jan. 22th against Memphis in San Antonio.


7.-PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS--(24-15)-.615-The Trailblazers beat Memphis twice this week. Beat them last Wednesday, 100-92 in Portland last Wednesday and defeated them Monday night Jan. 20th, 99-87 in Memphis. In their first meeting of the week, Rasheed Wallace scored a season-high 38 points. Later in the week, Wallace was suspended seven-games for harassing an official after a game outside. It is not clear what he said to the official, but it had to be pretty bad to receive a seven-game suspension. Next game Jan. 22th against Atlanta in Atlanta.


8.-UTAH JAZZ--(25-15)-.625-The Jazz beat New Jersey in overtime, 106-103 in Salt Lake City Monday night Jan. 20th. John Stockton led the team with a season-high 25 points. Karl Malone forced overtime on a basket with one second remaining in regulation and scored four of his 24 points in overtime. There were 63 personal fouls called and three technicals. Utah has won 12 out of their last 14 games. Next game Jan. 22th against the LA Clippers at Utah.


9.-PHOENIX SUNS--(25-17)-.595-The Suns defeated Dallas, 111-106 in Phoenix last Friday night on Jan. 17th. Stephon Marbury had 41 points and 11 assists, and committed no turnovers in 46 minutes. The Suns sank 10-of-19 3 pointers-4-of-6 by Marbury-to win their 11th straight at home. Next game Jan. 22th against Miami in Miami.


10.-BOSTON CELTICS--(24-17)-.585-Boston has won its last four games. The Celtics beat Philadelphia Monday night, 100-99 in Philly on Jan. 20th. Boston trailed by 23 points in the third quarter, but came back to win the game. Antoine Walker hit a 3-pointer to win the game in the final minutes. Playing with a sore knee he scored 33 points. His teammate Paul Pierce scored 40 points on the night. Pierce scored 26 points in the first half and finished 13-for-26 in the second half. Next game Jan. 22th against Milwaukee at Boston.


11.-HOUSTON ROCKETS--(23-16)-.590-The Rockets beat the LA Lakers, 108-104 in overtime in Houston last Friday on Jan. 17th. Yao Ming blocked Shaquille O'Neal's first three shots, altered Kobe Bryant's attempt at the end of regulation and dunked with 10.2 seconds left for the biggest basket of the night. The game turned out to be worthy of its hype. Ming had only 10 points for the night versus O'Neal's 31, but the Houston crowd adored Ming.


12.-MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES--(23-18)-.561-Minnesota defeated Toronto at Minnesota, 89-81 on Monday night on Jan. 20th. Kevin Garnett led his team with 19 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. Two assists shy of scoring a triple double. Before tonight's game Garnett has been averaging 22.0 points per game and 12.9 rebounds. Next game Jan. 22th against Seattle in Minnesota.


13.-NEW ORLEANS HORNETS--(22-20)-.524-The Hornets beat Phoenix at New Orleans, 114-102 on Monday night Jan. 20th. David Wesley scored 13 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, including two of his five 3-pointers early in the period. The Hornets had only averaged 16.2 points in the fourth quarter in their last five games, losing four of them. They scored 31 against Phoenix. Jamaal Magloire of the Hornets scored a season-high 22 points, including several dunks and had 10 rebounds. Next game Jan. 22th against Washington at New Orleans.


14.-WASHINGTON WIZARDS--(21-20)-.512-The Wizards defeated Denver at Washington, 89-74 on Monday night Jan. 20th. Michael Jordan overcame 5-for-14 shooting through three quarters by scoring 10 of his 25 points in the final period. Jordan had to do some trash talking with Denver rookie, Vincent Yarbrough who grew up as a Chicago Bulls fan. Jordan told him "remember you watched me, I didn't watch you!" Jerry Stackhouse missed his third straight game with a pulled groin.


15.ORLANDO MAGIC--(21-21)-.500-The Magic defeated Toronto in Toronto, 101-93 Sunday night Jan. 19th. Tracy McGrady had 35 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists against his former team. McGrady was 14-for-31 from the field. Jacque Vaughn added 15 points for the Magic. Next game Jan. 21th against Cleveland in Cleveland.


16.PHILADELPHIA 76ers--(21-20)-.512-The 76ers defeated New Jersey in Philly, 108-107 last Wednesday Jan. 15th. Allen Iverson scored 34 points, including five free throws in the final minute, helping his team snap a six game losing streak.

Looks good. I wonder if Portland has maintain their record without 'Sheed.

A lot of people think the LA Lakers should be number 15 or 16. They are 19-21, but have been playing a lot better than their record indicates.
