Default Ken Griffey, Jr. Retires

Griff has announced that he's hanging them up. He made Seattle a baseball town. He has been one of the best players of all times.

I always loved Griff, sad to see him go, but he isn't the player he once was. When its time, its time.

I was always a fan of his as well, but he should have done this a year-and-a-half ago. There is nothing sadder than watching a pro athlete who does not seem to grasp that it is time for him to go.

This is very true *cough* Brett Favre hahah *cough*

Future Hall of Famer? I think the answer to that question is a no brainer.
And all his home runs were never been linked to Steroids have they?

It is awfully hard to put Brett Favre in that category given he threw for 4,200 yards and 33 touchdowns last season.

No, Griffey has never drawn any serious suspicion in terms of steroids use over the years. There were those who speculated that he kept suffering all of those muscle and hamstring injuries because he was on the juice, but nobody was ever able to provide any credible evidence that he ever took anything.

I think people are just speculating now for the hell of it. Anyone who hits over 40 HR's in a season or over 500 HR's total and was around during the steroid era is going to get accused of juicing. I'm glad Griffey played baseball, he was a class act.

Heard on SC (Sports Center, not Sports Central) somebody saying they always wanted to be Griff, because Griff played baseball the RIGHT way.

Well, the speculation on Griffey was six or seven years ago when he was routinely missing over half the season with hamstring injuries. There were some that were speculating whether the hammy injuries were due to him taking something because pulled muscles are a common occurrence amongst steroid users due to overtightening of the muscles.

But, like I said, there was never any merit to the speculation and I have never seen his name mentioned in connection with the recent steroid scandals involving Bonds, Canseco, Clemens, etc.

True, all the reports that warranted the baseball search into Roids, and all the reports that caused steroids being connected to big names like A Roid and Sosa and Bonds never mentioned Griff.

One of the all-time greats. He was the Michale Jordan of baseball back in the '90s. The Kid. Let's not forget how great he was, all-around. Like doublee said, sad to see a guy go ahead perhaps later than he should, but he'll be remembered as a legend.
