Cool Professional Football Rankings Week 5

Week 6 schedule

Rankings reflect all games played from Sept. 9th through Oct. 15th. New rankings each Tuesday.

*Number 1--ST. LOUIS RAMS--(5-0)-Rams hung on to beat NY Giants 15-14. RB Marshall Faulk sprained his knee and may not be able to play for a month. RB Trung Candidate, subbing for the injured Faulk, scored the winning TD for the Rams with 4:16 to go. Rams made a lot of mistakes in that game. Lost three fumbles. QB Kurt Warner was 28-46 for 316 yards. He threw one INT. He has 1,564 total yards so far this season. FGK Jeff Wilkins kicked three FG's in that win. Next game Oct. 21st against New York Jets at New York

*Number 2--OAKLAND RAIDERS--(4-1)-Raiders beat Indianapolis at Indy 23-18. DB Anthony Dorsett returned INT for a 39 yard TD in the second quarter. WR Tim Brown caught seven passes for 145 yards. FGK Sebastian Janikowski kicked three FG's. Apparently, that bump on the head he received in a bar, earlier this week, didn't affect his kicking. Enjoys a bye Oct 21st. Next game Oct. 28th against Philadelphia at Philly.

*Number 3--GREEN BAY PACKERS--(4-1)-Packers held off Baltimore in 31-23 win at home. QB Brett Favre ransacked Ravens defense by completing 27-34 for 337 yards and three TD's. WR Antonio Freeman caught nine passes for 138 yards and one TD. Defense has only allowed 50 points in five games. Next game Oct 21st against Minnesota at Minnesota.

*Number 4--NEW ORLEANS SAINTS--(3-1)-Saints blew 17 point lead, but won the game in the last second with a one yard run by Ricky Williams for a TD. Saints 27-25 over Carolina. Williams is proving he's no fluke. He rushed for 147 yards on 31 carries. TE Cam Cleeland scored two TD's on passes. Saints defense held Carolina to 34 yards rushing. Next game Oct. 14th against Atlanta at home.

*Number 5--SAN FRANCISCO 49ers--(4-1)-49ers defeated Atlanta for the second time this year, in OT. First game was won in OT. 49ers won 37-31 when WR Terrell Owens scored on a 52 yard TD pass from QB Jeff Garcia. Owens caught nine passes for 183 yards and two TD's. Garcia completed 27-41 for 332 yards and two TD's. Enjoys bye Oct. 21st. Next game Oct. 28th against Chicago at Chicago.

*Number 6--BALTIMORE RAVENS--(3-2)-Ravens lost to Green Bay 31-23. Back-up QB Randall Cunningham came into the game late, and completed 5-10 for 70 yards. Also, he rushed for 40 yards on four carries, and he scored one TD. Safety Rod Woodson had eight solo tackles and one assist. Next game Oct. 21st against Cleveland at Cleveland.

*Number 7--PITTSBURGH STEELERS--(3-1)-Steelers beat Kansas City 20-17 in KC. RB Jerome Bettis rushed for 112 yards on 19 carries. He's a baby bull. WR Hines Ward caught four passes for 38 yards and one TD. LB Kendrall Bell registered two sacks on Chiefs QB Trent Green. Next game Oct. 21st against Tampa Bay at Tampa.

*Number 8--CHICAGO BEARS--(3-1)-Bears defeated Arizona 20-13 at home. RB James Allen rushed for 75 yards on 18 carries and one TD. QB Jim Miller completed 15-21 for 116 yards. He threw two TD's. Next game Oct. 21st against Cincinnati at Cincinnati.

*Number 9--CINCINNATI BENGALS--(3-2)-Bengals defeated Cleveland 24-14 at home. RB Corey Dillon ran all over the Browns for 140 yards on 31 carries and one TD. WR Peter Warrick caught four passes for 73 yards and one TD. Bengals offense had 400 total net yards. Next game Oct. 21st against Chicago at home.

*Number 10--NEW YORK JETS--(3-2)-Jets soared past Miami in 21-17 win. Jets came back from 17 point deficit at halftime, for another miracle win over Dolphins. Jets have won seven straight from their archrival. RB Curtis Martin rushed for 120 yards on 22 carries and one TD. Currently, he leads the NFL in rushing with 516 yards. LB James Farrior had four solo tackles and seven assists. Jets LB Marvin Jones leads the NFL in tackles with 54. Next game Oct. 21st against St. Louis at home.

*Number 11--SEATTLE SEAHAWKS--(3-2)-Backup QB Trent Dilfer led Seattle past Denver 34-21. RB Shaun Alexander who played for Alabama in college rushed for 142 yards on 33 carries and two TD's. Alexander ran for a 60 yard TD in the first quarter. Safety Reggie Tongue return an INT 55 yards in the second quarter for a TD. Has a bye coming up this week. Next game Oct. 28th against Miami at home.

*Number 12--NEW YORK GIANTS--(3-2)-Giants lost a heartbreaker to St. Louis 15-14. QB Kerry Collins completed 18-32 for 250 yards and one TD. He threw one TD. RB Ron Dayne rushed for 80 yards on 20 carries and one TD. WR Joe Jurevicius caught six passes for 101 yards. DE Michael Strahan recorded four sacks. Next game Oct. 22nd against Philadelphia at home on MNF.

*Number 13--MIAMI DOLPHINS--(3-2)-Dolphins lost a bitter contest to the Jets 21-17. QB Jay Fiedler completed 23-34 for 213 yards and one TD. He threw two INT's. Next game Oct. 14th against the New York Jets at New York. Rookie RB Travis Minor scored on a 29 yard TD run in the second quarter. Has a bye this coming week. Next game Oct. 28th against Seattle at Seattle.

*Number 14--PHILADELPHIA EAGLES--(2-2)-Eagles enjoyed a bye this past week. They will need QB Donavan McNabb at his best on Oct. 22nd when they fave the New York Giants on MNF.

*Number 15--TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS-(2-2)-Buccaneers lost close one to Tennessee 31-28 in OT. WR Keyshawn Johnson caught eight passes for 140 yards. Running game was non-existant for Buccaneers. RB Warrick Dunn rushed for 16 yards on 10 carries for one TD. Next game Oct. 21st against Pittsburgh at home.

*Number 16--DENVER BRONCOS--(3-2)-Broncos lost to Seattle 34-21 at Seattle. Broncos could only muster 188 yards in the air. They were penalized 12 times for 148 yards. Not good. WR Rod Smith leads the NFL in receiving with 42 receptions. Next game Oct 21st against San Diego at SD.

*Number 17--CLEVELAND BROWNS--(3-2)-Browns lost against their archrival, the Cincinnati Bengals 24-14. WR Kevin Johnson caught eight passes for 153 yards and one TD. Safety Earl Little had seven solo tackles and four assists. Next game Oct. 21st against Baltimore at home.

*Number 18--JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS-(2-2)-Jaguars enjoyed a bye this past weekend. Next game Thursday Oct. 18th against Buffalo at home. AFC Central is going to be a close race this year.

*Number 19--INDIANAPOLIS COLTS--(2-2)-Colts were to be a Super Bowl contender this year. It sure doesn't look like it. QB Peyton Manning must cut down on his interceptions. Lost to Oakland Raiders 23-18. Manning threw two INT's in that loss. RB Edgerrin James was his usual great self, rushing for 116 yards on 26 carries. Next game Oct. 21st against New England at home.

*Number 20--SAN DIEGO CHARGERS--(3-2)-Chargers lost to New England in OT 29-26. QB Doug Flutie couldn't pull a miracle out of his helmet this time. This was the Chargers 10th straight lose to New England. WR Curtis Conway caught four passes for 117 yards. Safety Rodney Harrison had eight solo tackles and five assists. Next game Oct. 21st against Denver at home. Should be a great game.

*Number 21--MINNESOTA VIKINGS--(2-3)-Vikings won against Detroit 31-26. Vikings scored those 31 points in the first 35 minutes of the game. QB Duante Culpepper rushed for 83 yards on seven carries and scored two TD's. WR Chris Carter caught eight passes for 111 yards and one TD. DE Chris Hovan recorded two and a half sacks against Charlie Batch. Next game Oct. 21st against Green Bay at home.

*Number 22--NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS--(2-3)-Back-up QB Tom Brady played like a regular in leading Pat's to a 29-26 OT victory against San Diego at home. FGK Adam Vinatieri kicked the winning FG. He is a very reliable kicker. Brady completed 33-54 for 364 yards and two TD's. WR Troy Brown caught 11 passes for 117 yards and reinstated Terry Glenn caught seven for 110 yards and one TD. Next game Oct. 21st Indianapolis at Indy.

*Number 23--ATLANTA FALCONS--(2-3)-Falcons lost again to 49ers in OT 37-31. Falcons defense allowed the 49ers to gain 519 yards total net yards. QB Chris Chandler completed 19-36 for 268 yards and two TD's. He tossed one INT. Next game Oct. 21st against New Orleans at New Orleans.

*Number 24--TENNESSEE TITANS--(1-3)-Titans won a much needed game against Tampa Bay in OT, 31-28. RB Eddie George for rushed 85 yards on 29 carries and one TD. FGK Joe Nedney kicked a 49 yard FG to win the game in OT. Next game Oct. 21st against Detroit at Detroit.

*Number 25--CAROLINA PANTHERS--(1-4)-Panthers lost to New Orleans 27-25 at home. Rookie QB Chris Weinke completed 21-39 for 196 yards and two TD's. He threw one INT. Next game Oct 21st against Washington at Wshington.

*Number 26--ARIZONA CARDINALS--(1-3)-Cardinals play well one week and poorly the next. Lost to Chicago 20-13. WR David Boston caught six passes for 85 yards. LB Rob Fredrickson had nine solo tackles. Next game Oct 21st against Kansas City at home.

*Number 27--KANSAS CITY CHIEFS-(1-4)-Chiefs lost to Steelers 20-17. At least RB Priest Holmes was impressive, rushing for 150 yards on 20 carries and scoring two TD's, both coming in the fourth quarter. It just wasn't enough. Next game Oct. 21st against Arizona at Arizona.


*Number 28--BUFFALO BILLS--(0-4)-Best 0-4 team around. Bills enjoyed a much needed bye this past week. Plays Jacksonville Oct. 18th on Thursday Night Football. QB Rob Johnson needs to justify the reason why they traded Doug Flutie.

*Number 29--DETROIT LIONS--(0-4)-Lions lost to Minnesota 31-26. QB Charlie Batch threw for some serious yardage by completing 31-41 for 345 yards and three TD's. RB James Stewart rushed for 108 yards on 16 carries. Next game Oct. 21st Tennessee at home.

*Number 30--DALLAS COWBOYS--(1-4)-Cowboys beat Washington 9-7 in the worst MNF game I've ever seen. Man I can't believe how this franchise has gone down. The only bright spot is RB Emmitt Smith, who rushed for 107 yards on 25 carries. Enjoys a bye this coming week. Next game Oct. 28th against Arizona at home.

*Number 31--WASHINGTON REDSKINS--(0-5)-The worst team in all of football, including college. RB Stephen Davis rushed for 99 yards on 23 carries in that ugly loss to Dallas on MNF. LB Kevin Mitchell played well, by having nine solo tackles and one assist. I have all the confidence in head coach Marty Schottenheimer, but do the fans? Next game Oct. 21st against Carolina at home.
