Default Ty Law to KC

No huge surprise here as Ty Law signs a five-year deal with the Chiefs. The Chiefs need secondary help and Law showed he still had something left in NY last year and he will be playing in a system he knows with Herm Edwards in KC.

The Chiefs now have a nice CB duo of Patrick Surtain and Ty Law. Their offense has been great the last few seasons, their defense has been their weak point.

The deal would have happened last year had Ty Law agreed to the terms Kansas City was offering.

Coming off of his fractured foot, Law demanded a great deal of guaranteed money. Law's agent Carl Poston said there was a four-year, $26 million offer on the table for Law to return to the Patriots, and the Chiefs were not willing to spend that kind of cash for a 31-year old with a bad wheel.

On top of the guaranteed money, Law was interested in a contract that would protect him in an event that he would re-injure himself.

It was something Kansas City was not willing to gamble with.

No matter what the Chiefs try on defense, nothing seems to work. They appear to be "cursed" on defense, much the same way that the Eagles are "cursed" at wide receiver.

Who wants to bet that the Chiefs' defense figures out how to stop the guy with the ball just in time for the Chiefs' offense to forget how to move the ball?

Or not...did you see Larry Johnson last season?

That's the beauty of the cap. Hard to have good talent everywhere.

And KC overspent. I hope that Law has some staying power.

Any team would overspend on Ty law. He's still got some left in him, but he's not worth the price tag - unless you can afford it, ya know?

Good point. Johnson is great. But Trent Green is about to bust. Plus the offensive line is getting old. Herm Edwards will focus on the run more than Dick Vermeil, and Johnson won't have the holes to run through. A great back can't overcome a lack of holes and a subpar QB. Just look at San Diego from a few years ago.

Why do you say that about Trent Green? I think he's been one of the more underrated QB's in the league the past few seasons.

Probably because the guy just turned 36 years old a few days ago and has had some significant injuries in his career.

Well, the Kansas City Chiefs took a hit offensively with tackle Willie Roaf announcing his retirement.

Chiefs' Roaf retires

That's a big hit to their running game.

Yeah, and Wil Shields is rumored to not be too far behind Roaf in heading off to retirement as well.
