Default Is Gilbert Arenas Really Worth $60 Million?

Gilbert Arenas has been one of the hot topics during the NBA free agency period. He had a great season in '02/'03 and really showed a lot of potential, but is a guy who's only been a starter for one full NBA season really worth $60 million over 6 years? Personally, I think not. I could see maybe 5 years for about $10 million, and even that's stretching it, but then again, it is the NBA, where money is thrown around like snowballs in the winter. Why the Warriors would let him out of their sights, I don't know, but it's going to be tough for them to match the Clips' big money offer.

Not at all. Just like Brad Miller isn't worth $60 million from Utah that they offered him. Don't get me wrong either, I think both are fantastic players and they're growing to be consistent players...but those price tags are absurd. Just like Rasho Nesterovic receiving 6 years $40 million from the Spurs, when last year was his first year of ever averaging double digits in points.

Well, Arenas just signed an offer sheet with the Wizards in the $60 million plus range, and to tell the truth Arenas is making about what he should make. I say that because all NBA athletes, who are decent, are greatly overpaid. Arenas was not drafted till the 2nd round, and now he is trying to make some of the money he thought he deserved if he would have been drafted in the first round or as a lottery pick. If I am not mistaken, Arenas was the last of 4 players drafted from Arizona in 2001, so now he just wants the kind of money that other players not as good as he is have been making.

Arenas is worth the money. Every penny of it.

I think he was only the 2nd guy drafted from that 01 Arizona class, and I think it went in this order.
Jefferson-Hou
Arenas-GS
Woods-Minn
Wright-NYK
I don't think that Wright even made the team, though.

for some reason i think Woods was with the T-wolves but i'm probably wrong on that. Arenas is worth the 60 million, Miller isn't. I'd love to see Miller suit up in the orange and blue. the knicks could certainly use a quality center and yes Wright never made the team

If Rasho and B. Miller are worth similar contracts, Gilbert Arenas is easily worth this. Everyone saying he hasn't done much needs to understand that he is getting paid on potential and future more than accomplishments.

Of course he is worth it!

He had a better season stat-wise than Jason Terry, and Baron Davis, and his stats were comparable to Steve Nash whom so many people seem to think is the greatest thing since sliced cheese. He is a great young combo guard who is only 21. He may be the best free agent in this class in the long run if he doesn't get complacent and lazy now that he is so much richer.

If you're into wannabe shooting guards, sure. I myself am kinda old fashioned that way, pass first.

I don't seem him doing good in Washington, with Stackhouse, Brown, and all the other egos on that team, he is going to have a hard time getting his fill of shots.

I have to agree because Washington still lacks a dependable PG and even more so now that they lost Tyrone Lue to the Magic. I think the problem with that team is it has NO chemistry. There were a lot of problems with Jordan/Collins as no one knew who was in charge: the legend player or the coach. Hopefully, Eddie Jordan can get things turned around.
