Default Who will take the NL Central-----and The conditions in which the Cubs will

Can the Cubs make the post season. The NL central is just waiting for a dominating team to take it.

I think the Cubs have a good shot as is. But I think they can be that dominating team with the following conditions:

1. Get Carlos Beltran from the Royals.
2. Get rid of Jose Hernadez.
3. Add Aramis Ramirez from Pitt.
4. Immidiately relieve Alfonseca of his duties.

Luis Castillo is supposedly on the market and the Marlins are interested in Juan Cruz or Bobby Hill for payroll reasons.
But the Cubs need the above 5 things before any extra.

Vote for who you think will end up on top of the NL Central.

The Cubs have a couple factors going against them. One, they lost their second-best hitter for the season in Corey Patterson ... severe blow. Two, they really wanted Mike Lowell and missed out on him. They need another bat, such as Beltran. Three, guys on their pitching staff like Carlos Zambrano are wearing down. I'm not sure they'll make the postseason. My money is on the Cardinals.

if by kg you mean Ken Griffey Jr. feel be heating up the operating table, he's done for the year and so is Cinci. this is a three team race and i feel the Cubs are gonna win. Prior-Wood-Zambrano are IMO the most dominatin 1-2-3 combo in the NL (and they all happen to be on my fantasy team ). the Cubs will get enough offense to get by and as long as the staff hold up the Cubs can easily go to the play offs

For the Cubs to get Carlos Beltran of the Royals, the Royals will have to drop from contention. I don't see this happening until late in September, and by then it'll be a bit late for the Cubs.
The Cubs seem to be moving the right direction and should be a contender again next season.
I think, overall, the Cardinals are the best team in the NL Central.

It's a crapshoot, the Cards, Cubs, and Astros could all win it. I'm going to pick the Astros, they seem to be able to pitch and their offense should pick up.

The Cubs need a 3B and a CF still. Go get the package of Lofton and Ramirez from the Pirates, IMO. Not the best players, but they'll fill in well and allow Hernandez to be a Utility guy, which he is suited well for. The thing that worries me the most though is the young pitching. Prior and Zambrano have pitched or are on pace to pitch more innings that ever before. You can see Carlos wearing down later in games already some. See how they do first.

And the Cardinals. They need pitching, pitching, and more pitching. However, the trade market is weak on pitching this year, and I don't see them getting what they need.

yeah, griffey got hurt! damn, the reds are done. But I see a great future for them. They've got a good young pitching staff and some good players. If kg ever goes a season with out getting hurt the reds will do very well.

I don't see that happening, it seems Griffey gets injured just as it looks like he is going to get hot again. Sad really...

I think the Cubs need another starter. Yes they have Prior, Wood and Zambrano, but like some of you have mentioned, Zambrano is wearing down, and their other two starters, Matt Clement and Shawn Estes, have been sub-par, and that's putting it pretty lightly. If they replaced either of those guys with one more decent starter (Kris Benson perhaps?), I think they would have a lot better chance to make the postseason. As far as the offense goes, Sosa'a power might be down, but he's hitting over .313 and he has a good RBI total if you consider the number of games he's missed. Alou and Mark G (I can't spell it) have hit well, but that's about it. Losing Patterson was a big blow, and Hee Sop Choi has been pretty disapointing, so while they haven't been great offensivley, if Sosa, Alou and Grudz can continue to hit the rest of the way, I think the Cubs starting pitching can carry them to the postseason (IF they get another starter).

Speaking of the Cubs, Mark Prior was just put on the 15-day DL ... not what the Cubbies want to hear!

The Cubs obtained Kenny Lofton and Aramis Ramirez from the Pirates about an hour ago. Doesn't help the pitching, but improves 3rd and helps to make up for the loss of Patterson in center.

The Cubs needed this big time. Does it put them over the top? Dunno. But it helps, I think.

Wow, that should be huge for them, I hope this will launch them to the postseason.
