Shane Battier? Huh? Battier is a solid role player who plays defense, can score, and grab a few rebounds but top 50 in the league? Joe Johnson doesn't belong on that list either. He is in the process of showing he is nothing more than another dime-a-dozen guard who can score 15-20 a game but can't carry a team.

Amare is definitely a little higher than he deserves to be given the company they placed him in.

I would guess that Dwight Howard is not on there due to the fact that he has only played 92 career games in the NBA.

There is a reason I was screaming bloody murder about the huge deal he got, mostly, as i said, he never did anything to deserve it.

And I would definately have KG above Nash.

Yeah, this list isn't perfect. LeBron should be higher, Amare lower. I also question Shaq's position as he's older and more injury-prone. But Ginobili really sticks out to me. He belongs closer to the bottom. As a Pistons/Prince fan, I was surprised to see him so highly-regarded, but I'm glad to see it.

I don't think LeBron should be any higher. I'd accept the argument he should be over Amare but the others ranked ahead of him have all won MVP Awards and led teams deep into the playoffs while LeBron has yet to win a MVP or even play in a playoff game.

bombers fan, are you thinking AI should be higher or lower? I think he is ranked just about right for the simple fact that he is too much of a chucker and as the primary ball handler does not do enough to make others around him better.

I also agree that Billups should be bumped up a little higher.

Kind of hard to rank players NOT based on positions. Point guards used to be the most valuable player on each team when the game was played at it's highest level.

Tobynosker's list is roughly the same as mine....Nash doesn't belong anywhere near the Top 5. AI definetely does. Why does everyone think Nash is the best thing since sliced bread? He's not even the best player on the Suns let alone the best PG in the league or a top 5 player. And speaking of the best point guard in the league, Jason Kidd has to be higher. 20th is an atrocity. Paul Pierce got jobbed too...No way Marion, Gasol, Baron Davis or Gilbert Arenas to name just four are better than The Truth. And Michael Redd over Marbury, Jamison, Maggette and Peja is just pure comedy. Shane Battier?!? What!?!?!

And on the Milk Carton list of Missing People are: Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Zach Randolph, Brad Miller, Antione Walker. These guys are all better than Big Z, Rashad Lewis (who I like, but c'mon), JRich, Lamar Odom and Battier.

Also, Philly's other AI, Andre Igodala will be on this list next year. Dude is for real. TJ Ford probably will be too.

Bosh and Howard probably belong somewhere in the 40s. I disagree with Randolph (terrible shot selection, poor defender), Miller (declining) and Brickhouse Walker.

My top ten:
1. Tim Duncan
2. Shaquille O'Neal
3. Kevin Garnett
4. Kobe Bryant
5. LeBron James
6. Dwyane Wade
7. Steve Nash
8. Allen Iverson
9. Amare Stoudemire
10. Dirk Nowitzki

I'll disagree with Steve Nash not being the best player on his team. A lot of my ranking is based on crunch-time performance. Nash was simply understoppable in the playoffs last season. Amare was a beast as well, but not nearly as dangerous as Nash. Nash was slashing in the lane, draining 3's and dishing the rock. When Amare was forced outside the lane (which wasn't often), his average jumper was exposed. Defensively he gets overly aggressive and makes too many goaltends.

Dirk isn't even the number one option for Dallas in the fourth quarter. That's Jason Terry (and for good reason). Dirk still hasn't shaken his playoff stigma.

Antoine Walker? To be honest I think I'd take Battier over Walker at this stage of their respective careers. Their offensive stats are fairly similar with Battier having far better shooting numbers. Walker's shot selection is brutal and at least Battier plays defense. Walker was an offensive force three or four years ago but now he is not more than a chucker. He doesn't even rebound anymore.

Maybe the Toine comment was a little much. Apologies. He's still better than Battier though.

I'd say it is fairly debatable as to whether Walker is as good as Battier these days. At Walker's peak as a player it was no contest but so far this year their offensive numbers are pretty even and Battier's defense is far better:

Battier: 13.3 ppg; 5.7 rpg; 1.8 apg; .568 FG%; .423 3FG%; .745 FT%
Walker: 13.6 ppg; 6.3 rpg; 2.3 apg; .429 FG%; .350 3FG%; .519 FT%
