Default Bye bye Bernie??

Game 5 coulda been Bernie 's last game. He is my fav Yankee and is def one of the most classiest players ever. My question is does he deserve a spot in cooperstown? He is clutch and was always there in the playoffs. He was also a big hitter back in the 90s so is he in out out?

I say no. When they flashed up his career numbers last night, I wasn't that impressed. But if you showed me HOF's with similar numbers, I might change my mind.

Two Bernie Williams threads? geez.

He is not a Hall of Famer. he was on top of his play for only four years in all reality. maybe retire his number because of his amazing postseason stats and Yankee tenure. a Hall Of Famer is great over a longer amount of time and Williams was not on top of his game. he ranks w/ Bobby Bonilla, Luis Gonzalez, Will Clark, Paul O'Neill, Ellis Burks, etc during his prime years to name some other guys in his company on the scale.

No HOF for Bernie. I love the guy, he's very classy and has put up solid numbers during his career...especially in the postseason. But his numbers are not HOF level.

No HOF for Bernie. You know I hate the Yanks being from Boston, but I'll say this: Bernie is a class act, and I enjoyed watching him play (not really cause he beat up my team a few times), seriously he has great talent, but I do not think he is a HOFer. His numbers are not there. You don't have to be in the HOF to be a great player, any true fan knows that.

IMO, he's also been a solid player, but never HOF level. I believe HOF should be very exclusive, even more than it is now, and he doesn't fit the mold.

No, he is not a HOFer. If folks want to make the case that Palmeiro is not a legit candidate because he was never a serious MVP candidate the same can be said for Bernie.

Palmeiro was at least among the elite players for more then a four year span, which is how long Bernie was on top for.

Definitely not a Hall of Famer, at least by today's standards, but he will be remembered as a great Yankee and with the Yankees' wide-spanning fan base, he might as well be a Hall of Famer.

If Bernie decides to retire or play elsewhere, I wonder if Randy Johnson will be allowed to/choose to wear #51 again?
