i have heard this argument all during my morning drive by people such as mike and mike, Dick Vitale and a couple others. How can you have GM defeating Uconn as the greatest upset ever?! What signifigance is there to them winning? It does nothing but ruin a whole bunch of brackets! The USA defeating the Soviets is and was the greatest upset and most influential sports moment of all time (that's any sport).

I'm not saying that the GM win can't be second, but nothing can ever top the USA's victory

My two favorite Boston upsets:
Redsox beating the Yankees 2004 ALCS after being down 0-3 (but is that an upset, or a choke? Some had the Sox winning it anyway, but after being down 0-3 - no one had them winning it)
2001 Patriots over St. Louis Rams 20-17. Rams were favored by 14 points.
Other: (not necessarily the "best" upsets, but some of my favorites...
Pistons over the Lakers a few years ago. Shaq and Kobe defeated.

IMO, nothing beats the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team's win over the Soviets & then winning the gold medal.

But, as a Yankee Hater, I personally loved seeing the Sox coming back & beating them in 2004.

I believe that Super bowl 3 has huge signifcance. It proved that the AFL was an equal to the NFL and really lead to it mergeing into the league that it is today. So I would put the Jets win over the Colts up there with US hockey and everything else below those to because they had other signifcance.

Jeff Gordon over Dale Earnhardt in 98. Dale missed the championship by 35 points if my memory serves me right!
