You know what's really sad. What's happened to Shawn Kemp over the past few years.

I remember back in the early 1990's he was one of the most premier power forwards in the game up in Seattle. He was so athletic, with great leaping ability and played above the rim most of the time. I still remember that one awesome dunk he had against my Warriors in the 1992 playoffs when the Sonics as the 6th seed in the West upset my Warriors who were the 3rd seed. Gary Payton threw him this lob and it seemed like Kemp jumped through the arena as he caught it and dunked it over Alton Lister. That was what I would call a "poster dunk". One of those types of dunks that kids would put on their bedroom wall.

But ever since he got that big contract when he got traded to Cleveland, he's gotten kind of fat and unmotivated. I saw him play last night against the Warriors. He looks a little bigger than 280 pounds that nba.com lists him at. He likes to play more away from the rim now and is content to just to take outside jumpers. And when he does play inside now, he just throws up little flip shots so he doesn't have to get above the ground much. He kind of plays like Arvydas Sabonis now but Sabonis plays that game much better.

Yeah, I remember him back when he was younger. Too bad that he is not how he used to be anymore.

Must of been his having all those kids with all those different women that led to his decline...

Arvydas Sabonis? I don't know about that, but the (former) Reign Man is no more. It's kind of sad to see how drastically bad he's gotten since his prime days, but things happen.

Default Arvydas Sabonis

To clarify here, I didn't mean Sabonis is playing bad or Kemp is playing as good as Sabonis or that Kemp does what Sabonis does.

Kemp's not near the passer Sabonis is, nor is Kemp as good from outside or have the outside shooting range that Sabonis has.

What I was doing was making some parallels between Kemp and Sabonis in the sense that like Sabonis plays close to the floor and can rarely jump now neither can Kemp. And how Sabonis takes the outside shot for a big man, Kemp does the same thing.

I may have just used a poor choice of words.

I'm just glad the Cavs got rid of him. He really sucks now.

On a funny note , I remember the first NBA Jam for Super Nintendo. Shawn Kemp was THE player to be, he would be able to do all these spectacular dunks.

Default Kemp

As you guys said, he was one of the best thunderous dunkers in the NBA during the beginning of his career ... before he got that HUGE gigantic GUARANTEED contract.

That's just one problem with the NBA .... the guaranteed contracts.

Good point - the NBA should start giving performance-based contracts. The better the player plays, the more money he gets.

Yes. That idea would be great. I don't like seeing former all-stars making millions but doing horrible.

Oh yeah, I remember that game. I used to love that game. I used to love "powering up" or whatever you call it. I think that was the last video game I've played too. I haven't played a video game in like 3 or 4 years, heh.

But you're right. Shawn Kemp was a great dunker in that video game. I loved using him and Gary Payton. I think Kemp was the 2nd best dunker in that game though to Dee Brown. I didn't play the Celtics much but that's what I heard from other people.
